One thing you might want to try is contacting the law school at a university near you. They may be able to give you advice at a reduced cost, or free, to gain experience. You may only need some letters written on a lawyer's letterhead to get attention. I assume that law schools are like a lot of medical schools. I got a lot of dental work done at a university medical center because students did it. It took a little longer, but they were checked at every step. Probably better care than at a regular dentist where there is no one to check And it was a lot less expensive, as well. You might also contact the local bar association, they often give referrals.
Did you dispute this with the CRA's or did you just send a letter to VW? If you didn't dispute with the CRA's, then the fact that EX removed the repo is a very good sign, since it means that VW specifically told EX to remove it... and if they told EX to remove it, then logically they would have told the other two as well. If this is the case, then I would expect it to disappear from the other CRA's within the next week or two. If you did dispute it and EX is the only one that deleted after your dispute, then it's still a good sign and you should try to dispute with the other CRA's again. HTH, Brett
Good advice. I have a couple of friends that attend Marquette University, and they have a reputable law school. I'll ask them to see if they have any contacts down there to halp me out. I did dispute it with EQ and TU. EQ I'm still waiting on, and TU sent some form letter with all of the addresses listed for all of my TLs. ??? EQ sent my stuff to CSC, so I have a wait for them... I'm think my next step is to send TU and EQ something sayin' "EX deleted, so you should too", and see if that works. Thanks for the advice guys. Very helpful.
Finally got a response from them. It seems my account has been turned over to the Special Collections Unit in Michigan. They basically ignored my letter disputing the deficiency balance and the circumstances involving the repo which they violated TWO Wisconsin statutes in repossessing my car. Here's some text from this letter: Then it has the typical "this is an attempt to collect a debt and any information obtained will be used for that purpose BS"... Couple of questions: 1. Why did they ignore my letter? Or did they, since it was referred to their "special collections" division? 2. EX has already tried to verify and they deleted. TU and EQ haven't. What's my next step involving that? 3. What should I send to them? Standard CA validation? I don't want them to send copies of my contract to me, I know it's mine -- it's the repossession part they screwed up. There's also great advice up there about free legal advice from a university, but most legal students are gone for the summer and won't be back 'til later this month. What are my other legal options? sue now? Any and ALL help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Many law schools have summer sessions. Also, the local bar association may be able to give you a referral. Sometimes you can get an initial consultation free. Also, maybe someone will take it on a contingency basis.
Followed your advice Hedwig and my bar said they don't offer that kind of consultation through their members. He told me to look up a consumer law attorney...and I'm going to do just that. Thanks.
