On my DHs report, he has an OC still reporting a balance on a settlement he paid a CA a while back. They provided Validation of the account including the settlement payment but now I am nitpicky on the TL that they verified

It shows a balance and a past due. He decided to call them today (he wont listen to me about writing, wants instant gratification) just to question the TL and was told on settlement they only have to report what you paid that was posted the account and it can still show the balance you didn't pay. They did say he wasn't legally obligated to pay it but a future lender might require it to be paid.

So he paid $250 on a settlement and has a letter from the CA showing the OC info, but they are reporting the account on TU & EQ as:

    High Interest Bank
    Acct: ########
    Acct Closed by Credit Grantor
    Updated 11/03
    Opened 12/97
    Closed 9/2000
    Balance 1027
    Most Owed 1277
    Past Due 1027
Status as of 9/2000 Charge Off.

Am I right that the balance should be zero and nothing should be past due? I guess I don't have confidence in my knowledge yet! I want to write a letter and get it out CRRR asap to get this fixed for him.

    Thanks!

    Depends.

Was the CA sold or assigned the account?

Did you get your settlement agreement in writing?
