I had disputed a few items on my EF credit file and specifically requested to receive verification of dispute if items were to remain. Are we not entitled as consumers to receive information on how the CRA "confirms" your dispute? Is there not a law that requires them to do so? Thanks.
I don't think so. The CRA will contact the creditor to verify the information directly. They will send you a letter upon contact.
But if your initial dispute does not result in adequate correction, you may request a reinvestigation. Following a reinvestigation, they must notify you that you may request how they investigated, who they contacted, etc. See: http://www.ftc.gov/os/statutes/031224fcra.pdf § 611. Procedure in case of disputed accuracy [15 U.S.C. § 1681i] (a) Reinvestigations of Disputed Information...
Maybe someone with only 6 posts shouldn't answer questions that they don't know the answer to. Don't think, KNOW! The Fair Credit Reporting Act requires upon request that the CRA provide the proceedures used to investigate the dispute; the dispute results are required to place this notice on them. However, guess what you get (if you get anything); typically it is the same one paragraph blurb (when we get your dispute, we review your documentation, forward the dispute, etc). The only true way that people have been able to get true proceedures reports is through discovery, depositions, and trial. And they have been interesting reading.
Well, effectively, their reply was only 17 characters long; wrong; and their advertisement was 40 characters long.
