How does this look for a response to ICS Lakeside?

    questions?

    comments?

    concerns?

reference their reply to my original letter to them.

Sounds Great.....Did they already agree to delete? If not, you should put that in there and make sure to get it in writing.

It's a soft inquiry, it wouldn't make a difference anyway.

I don't care about the inquiries anyhow. I just don't want people looking at my credit record for no reason.

It's unlawful under the GLB to ask for an SSN as proof of identity (I think).

    Any comments?

I'm a tad confused on this issue. PAE, did you opt out? It was my understanding that softs can be pulled by just about anyone providing you have not opted out of promotionals. I didn't think soft even showed the details of your credit report...just basic info like name, address, score range. Could be way off here...I just don't know enough about it, but am interested in finding out.

That would be a promotional inquiry.

The difference is that with a promo the requestor sends a request to the cra stating 'give me the names and addresses of all the 25-30 year old males in atlanta'

ICS actually viewed my entire report.

the FCRA makes no distinction in permissible purpose of hard v. soft.

Can you point me in the direction of where you are finding this info? Somehow I've managed to not run across it in my travels...lol.

sorry, I'm looking at 616 for the basis and 604 for the permissible purpose.

What I'm not getting is...how do we know what info is given when they pull a soft? Are we positive they see our consumer report? The whole thing? It just seems to me like soft would be soft (whether it be for promo purposes or for whatever). I know nothing about this, so don't listen to me, but I just don't see how this is going to play out.

The difference between a "soft" and a "hard" is whether or not the inq. is available to potential creditors. It has little, (if anything) to do with what, or how much info. is available.

For a promotional inq. the creditor sends criteria to the CRA and asks that they do a search and furnish names and addresses for those who meet that criteria. Like PAE indicated.

An AR, as from a credit card for example, supplies the entire report.

    Both are SOFT inqs.

As far as I know there is no data available on how much of your report is available with each of the different inq. types. I'd love to know too but it's a secret they obviously want to keep.

    :)
