Results from Equifax dispute

    I have lots of questions, so please don't get tired of me. I disputed 6 accounts back in Feb. 02. The reasons are they were paid with a $0 bal but the status stated open or unknown. I did the dispute online and checked the reason as closed account. On the response from EQ on 2 items they stated "OPEN ACCOUNTS ARE CONSIDERED CLOSED ONCE THE ACCOUNT IS 'PAID IN FULL'. THIS ACCOUNT HAS BEEN UPDATED TO REPORT AS CLOSED." My first question is on the other items I disputed they stated "ADDITIONAL INFO HAS BEEN PROVIDED FROM THE ORIGINAL SOURCE REGARDING THIS ITEM"-if the circumstance was the same shouldn't all the items disputed have the same responce? (If the creditor actually responded to the dispute, that is) Does this mean that on the items they closed due to balance paid in full were not sent as disputes? Or that the creditor did not respond? Should I request verification that the creditor did respond? So many questions, I know. But you all are very helpful. Also, I have an old Airtouch Cellular account that show DLA of 12/98, but this was closed in 8/95 and sent to outside CA. Shouldn't the DLA be the 8/95 date? Again, thank you so much for your advice or opinions.

    Looks like they reaged the account by 3 years.Any one else have any more suggestions for Heather?

    Thank you. Should I now go and dispute this? Maybe since it's so old they won't respond. When I paid the colletion back in 2000 it was removed, but the original creditor is still listed(Airtouch ?). Thanks again!!!!! :) Any advice with my other problems???

    I also paid a bill last year but it had an open status w/$0 bal therefore, I disputed it. EQ states that creditor has verified that a/c is not satisfied. How can they do this? The bal has now been re-added. Needless to say I called EQ last week and have re-disputed? What if creditor comes back and says same thing? Can I ask for the 'proof' that creditors send? Please help, I'm new at this whole process. Thank you in advance.

    Yes I agree the account looks re-aged. Send validation to the CA.

    As to the first problem, it sounds like the CRA's are claiming they sent disputes, and the creditors verified that the accounts are open. If they claimed they got "no response" then the items should have been removed or updated. Call the creditors and request they update the account with the CRA's as closed...since this is not over a "derogatory listing" they should not give you any problems doing this. If they do give you trouble, send letters to them stating that the "open" status that is being reported is hurting your credit rating and needs to be updated or you will sue for damages and violations of the FCRA.

    At the same time send the procedure request letters (examples in the sample letter section) to the CRA's to determine who verified, when and how.

    Yes, that proof is what the procedural request letters demand from the CRA. I would send validation letters to the CA on this account as well. You still have a shot that the account will be deleted on the second dispute, but better to start the process of validation and procedural request now.
