My credit score is in the mid 500's . I have 4 positive accounts; a car loan and orchard bank secured card. Is there a chance I can obtain a retail card? I could be Victoria's Secret for all I care. I have no retail at all and it is holding my score down, along with a couple of charge offs I am paying now.

DH applied for Victoria's Secret in Florida, score 580, they turned him down. I'll look at the letter we got from them and post their reasons for the turn down.

I would say no way on anything retail. I would wait until 630+ before I tried anything. You will just rack up hards for no reason and if you do hit that score they will turn you down for too many inquiries.

It seems like every time I get close to 600's (IE 599 for about 3 days) Something bad happens. I had made an agreement to pay a collection account by a few large payments. They then posted a paying on charge off on my credit reports. That's a new charge off on a 2+ years old account that was already there. Now I will have to fight to get this crap off my reports. It is almost like you can't win if you are willing to pay the debts you created. My score has to get better. Maybe I need to be more patient. Thanks.
