Have you guys ever had Fingerhut accounts at all???? I'm just curious cause hubby and I only pull EXP twice a year now, I don't want to pull it until February, but if you guys have never even had an account with them it may be worth it....

Ok, this is not funny! I got my hit today from RJM Acquisitions on Experian. I am so da#$ sick of dealing with Experian. Every time I turn around I get something new added! Why is it that they only hit Experian?? I have not had one thing deleted from my Experian report since I started this journey several months ago!

I guess I better get on the horn with RJM. I don't think this Fingerhut account is mine!

For all who did not see my post last week. I have not dealt with a collection agency for Fingerhut/axsys, but they had an account showing on dh's report. I sent several letters explaining this was not his. They verified through each bureau 3 times, they were not giving in, so I contacted BBB. Voila, 1 week GONE! Maybe you all should concentrate on Fingerhut? B/c even if you get this ca removed, you still have Fingerhut to deal with, so why not start with them and save time?

KHM, my hubby has never ordered a single thing from fingerhut. When he called experian yesterday after talking to RJM, she told him that the way RJM reported it to them it could have been anybody. No SS number was attached, the name was wrong, the account number was not complete. She was floored that the entry could even be on the report. She says it looks like they are just putting the accounts on the reports on the first match up they have and my hubby's name is James Waters which is so bloody common. It better be removed after disputing with both the CA and the CRA. If not they have some hell to pay.

It is absolutely incredible that any CA can put negaitve items with no unique identifiers on someones credit report. And then Experian puts the burden on us to get the junk removed. Absolutely incredible! I think we should all go after RJM and by extension Experian.

Update on my hubby's entry to these jerks. WE got the fax from RJM stating they will be deleting the entry to the CRAs and that we are not responsible for this debt and that the account is closed. Please show this letter to any potential creditors that it is to be removed within 30 days from the CRA's. What a relief and thank you so much for posting that phone number. I know that we dispputed directly with experian right away but it is even better that we talked to RJM personally and got this taken even quicker and got the fax since we are meeting with our mortgage people on MOnday so we can show them that this is not ours till it falls off the CR.

    Update:

They sent what they think passes for a validation; a document that they think to be a statement, it looks like it was prepared in MS Word. This arrived on day 35.

They state on thier letter that "RJM Acquisitions LLC is not a Collection Agency." But on the bottom of the letter it has the mini - miranda.

They did not mark the account in dispute until the 40th day.

Any thoughts, comments would be appreciated from my fellow C-Netters!

I have sent a validation letter to RJM for a different account (not Fingerhut) and I am hoping that they violate.

A little history on RJM/Fingerhut debacle.

RJM is a debt buyer for the most part. The same thing happened to me. I called them and strongly stated this was not my account that I was in the process of refinancing my house and it must come off now or I will immediately file suit. The rep got a supervisor who faxed a deletion request to me the same day. My loan officer helped me with contacting the CRAs and it was off within 5 days.

The RJM rep admitted over the phone that they had purchased hundreds of thousands of default debts from Fingerhut and there were probably some mistakes as to whom some of them really belonged to.

    Here's an excerpt from directmag.com:

    >Federated Department Stores Inc. plans to auction off 17 million of Fingerhut's unpaid customer accounts totaling $2.4 billion in bad debt. The selloff was first reported recently in The Wall Street Journal. The report said that selling the â??mountain of bad debtâ? will signal to investors that the company is serious about straightening out its business problems. Federated is said to be targeting companies with aggressive collection firms to purchase the accounts â?? from between 1985 and 1995 â?? in order to recoup some of the bad debt, the article said. The WSJ also noted that Federated was not expecting to generate a significant amount of revenue from the sale. Federated recently announced its decision to downsize the catalog company, slashing some 550 positions, or 24% of its work force. John Buck, the company's chief operations officer, resigned in the wake of the decision. Federated bought Fingerhut in the spring of 1999 for $1.7 billion.<

Federated then sold Fingerhut in 7/2002. So I'm sure that was part of all of this credit mixup too.

BTW, I also have a good tradeline with Fingerhut. It's been there for 2 years. It has a 500 limit with no balance. The funny thing is that I've never even purchased anything from them. I don't know where that one came from either but I'm not touching it. I need all the good tradelines I can get!

Better hope your creditors and insurers don't pull an AR on you!
If they do there goes your loan rates and insurance premiums rite through the roof.

2*I thought they had to notify you and give you 30 days to dispute the debt before reporting it to the credit bureaus? Am I wrong?
