Received letter today from RJM Acquisitions LLC from Hauppauge, NY today informing me that they had purchased my account from Fingerhut/Axsys National Bank. It says that RJM Acquisitions is not a collection agency. How should I go about handling this one?
The old "we aren't a third party collection agency" trick. Do you owe Fingerhut money? and is it in default? Are they trying to collect it? Proceed with validation, and here's an opinion letter: http://www.ftc.gov/os/statutes/fdcpa/letters/arbuckle.htm
RJM apparently bought a large number of fingerhut accounts, request complete validation immediately. I got a letter from them stating that they were deleting the account immediately after contacting them. You'll want to send a copy of the letter you get to all three CRAs to make sure that it gets deleted asap. I saw them on TransUnion before they even attempted contacting me once.
Send the standard validation letter today CRRR, start building the paper trail. You might want to do a search by their name as they are a frequent topic here. NV Bone Doc Member of the 650 Club True health comes from within
I am dealing with RJM myself. As of right now they are in violation. They had 30 days to verify and they did not. They mailed me a letter stating they were going mark the creditline (disputed by consumer) with the CRA. However, that never happened. Next, TU verified it with RJM but RJM never verified with me. Am I on the right track???? The next I will do is send out an estopple letter and strongly mention I will send the next letter to the proper places AG, FTC, and others. Whatcha think ?????
Are you talking about validate? The 30 days is a reasonable time for our purposes, but not a violation as there is no time limit in the FDCPA. If they haven't marked it in dispute you are on the right track here.
I am dealing with them now also. I sent them a validation letter and they sent me a printout possibly done in MS Word on what I bought. They also sent me something from the previous CRA that held it. They did not have my current address but as soon as they got my validation letter back dated a collection notice to the day before they signed for my letter. I know this b/c they had an old address that was deleted from TU and had not done and A/R or hard. They didn't validate and verified with the CRA. In the process of sending them an estoppel letter.
I received my deletion letters from RJM (Fingerhut accounts) just last week. I have already faxed to the CRA's. Send the validation letter. I sent one via CMRRR. Their response was a statement that I could have typed up in MS Word. My second letter was sent via e-mail 4/24/2003. I basically told them that I could have typed up that statement and sent it to them saying that they owed me money, but it would not prove that they did.
I sent the e-mail to Jamie Rozansky. I did this because this was the person who sent the response to my first validation letter. The e-mail address is jrozansky@rjmacq.com. Another contact there is Scott Matte and his e-mail is smatte@rjmacq.com
Re: Re: RJM Acquisitions LLC I did not send the estoppel. I just sent another validation letter asking for some empirical proof that the debts were mine. I also let them know that what they sent did not prove anything. If they can not produce some solid proof, then they must remove their tradeline from my reports.
