I was thinking of faxing the letter and copy of the envelope that has wrong name and my address to them. I was going to do this to let them see what kind of BIG mistake they made. Anybody have any ideas how I could use this as ammunition. RMA from 2200 S. Busse Rd. Mt. Prospect, IL 60056 mailed me a letter stating as follows: ***WRONG NAME*** correct address right, city xxxxx Re: (wrong account) Dear (wrong name), The above referenced account has been closed and returned to our client (OC) per their request. Any information placed on your credit report by our company will be removed. If you have any questions or require further information , please contact me at 1-888-538-8338 extension 8499. Sincerely, Gabby Nungaray Account Represenative cp/oss
Enablement of identity fraud It may not be much ammunition for you, but it sure would for the intended recipient of the letter.
Re: Enablement of identity fraud I looked for under anywho.com and did not find the name listed there at all. Any other suggests on how to find the person?
Re: Enablement of identity fraud Hey, I am waiting for my letter stating just that from them is the last name Nugent? Wouldn't that be something.......
Re: Enablement of identity fraud If the letter wasn't addressed to you and had someone else's name on it, may I ask why you opened it? Isn't that technically against the law?
Re: Enablement of identity fraud You can open any mail sent to you home. I am still getting mail for the guy who I bought my house from. At first, some items were forwarded but he only filed a temporary forwarding order. My postal carrier told me I could open anything that's addressed to my house---which was scary considering MBNA sent him a live check for $9,000.00 from his special line of credit. I called to complain but the lady on the phone said it "happens all the time."
Re: Enablement of identity fraud No the last name is not Nugent.......... And hey you might be right about the law thing I did not even think about that......let me try to make a case here..."it had my address on it". In other words do not even stress the letter to them.
Re: Enablement of identity fraud If the letter does come to your house, you can open it. How many people in a America collect their mail out of their boxes and just mindlessly rip open the envelopes? They have every reason to believe that the US Postal Service is doing their jobs and delivering the mail correctly.
Re: Enablement of identity fraud I'm not sure that your mail carrier was right dude. Even if he was, it's highly unethical to open someone else's mail. If the name on the letter was not your name...why didn't you write RETURN TO SENDER on the envelope and send it back??? That way, RMA would have received it and sent it to the right person.
Re: Enablement of identity fraud 1*It's highly unethical to open someone else's mail. 2*If the name on the letter was not your name... 3* why didn't you write RETURN TO SENDER on the envelope and send it back??? vanili ===================== 1*If it has your address it's your mail. It is not unethical to open mail that is addressed to your mail box. Where it may be unethical is opening mail placed in your mail box that is not addressed to your mail box. 2*No name is required on mail in many cases. 3*What if the contents was yours and had your personal information in it such as SSN checking account, etc.? Why would you return something that was yours? Of course if you never opened it how would you know the difference? LB 59
