I do have a few other small (all less than $200) medical collections on my report. How do you negotiate with them? I am willing to pay them IN FULL, if they will just delete them. Do I call and tell them that or what? I have no idea where to start, but these are about 5 yrs old, so it would be nice to remove these without waiting 2 more years.

Girl, i have said this about 1000 times. Sit down and come up with some excuse WHY you didnot pay this debt that makes them the blame. Something. If that doesnot work, come up with the sob story of your life.

I REFUSED TO KEEP MY DEBTS ON. I DESERVE AN ACADEMY AWARD FOR THE STUNTS I PULLED.

Why, because I was screwed so much by my student loan lender, that I felt like no one was on my side. I got my SL situation cleared b/c I was in the right. But the whole process made be ruthless.

IF you need help with an excuse, let me know. I will ponder one up for you.

I have a medical collection for $50.00...offered payment if they removed it...they said no way.

I offered them $100.00...double the amount owed...they still said no.

I also told them they could either accept my money or I would dispute it. Still no.

So it's in dispute right now. when it comes back verified I will dispute it again asking for the documentation.

After the first dispute I am going to call them back and offer $50.00 again. If not, dispute it again with another CRB. Then ask for the documentation again...

Seems to me that since it is such a small amount they could care less if I pay it or not. Since it sounds the amount you owe is more than $50 you might have a little more leverage in getting the item removed.

I would recommend not paying it unless they agree to removing it. Several paid collections probably hurts your score just as much as unpaid collections. And they are five years old....so maybe they are not hurting your score too much.

    oh no christi bad move

You must claim that they made an error. They aint gonna remove it b/c you were in school fulltime.

You must come up with something that makes them the blame.

Here are a few reason why creditors will let you off:

    1) you moved and didnot get the bill.

    2) Your ex husband told you that he took care of it and you didnot know it. "The bum"

    3) You paid the bill. cash. you called and they told you if was ok and to ignore the notices. This works if the same person has not been working in collections at the hospital for the last 15 years.

Tell them how responsible you are about paying your bills and this is your first hearing about it. But if you say I owe it I will pay it, but since I had no statements or notices sent to me I think it is only fair that the item is removed from my file as a courtesy for payment.

The worse that can happen is they say no and you wait 2 more years.

Whatever you do be consistent. Here's another story. I called this phone company and told them that I didnot pay a bill b/c I had 2 roommates and we had these 900 #'s on the bill that no one would own up to. So we graduated and the phone was in my name so i gave them the money for my part of the bill and i moved to another state. They told me the bill was paid. etc etc. I told her that the lights was in ones roommates name and the phone in my name.

Guess what? She goes, you know what , I was trying to tell my niece not to do that.....she just went to college and put utilities in her name

    I was like "I know."

    She helped me.....

Ha! the entire story was BULL....NOT ONE BIT OF IT WAS TRUE. We all had 3 separate phones...

I got many NO's before I got that yes. But I kept trying. I made about 4 phone calls over 2 months.

    Whatever works.

I do not brag about what I did. I am stating it this way to make a point. I hope my point was taken.

    Good LUck
