Hi all, I'm having problems with a citibank debt and I was wondering if this is a problem for anyone else. I started attempting to work with my credit reports 2 months ago and I've been having moderate success. However...

I had a debt with Citibank that was charged off in 1996. It is scheduled to stay on my report until 2003. I was just going to let it fall off as most of the charges weren't mine anyway (ex's). I recently received a copy of my EXP and TU reports and some collection agency named Pinnacle Credit Services has taken over this debt that had never (until now) been sent to a collection agency.

The debt with Citibank had always been reported (until 1/2002) as $895. Now these guys come along saying that the debt was opened on 3/2002 (the month I started getting my reports and started disputing) and that I now owe them $1508!!!! WTF? And it gets better. Experian now says this debt will remain on my report unil 2005.

What would be my best strategic move regarding this new collection agency. I had been doing so well and had two deletions, but I feel like this was such a setback.

Key note here: I have never received a letter from them stating that I owe this debt as of this date. Apparently they have taken this over just last month. If I get a letter from them, I will of course make them validate the debt, but what if I never get the letter. I refuse to call them to give them an address to send me a letter. What is the best way to get at these guys.

BTW, has anyone ever dealt with Pinnacle?

    Any help appreciated!

Crystal - Citibank did that to Nice Guy and myself - and we are challenging. However, we are bouncing back from bankruptcy - Citibank, or any AGENT of
Citibank - cannot change BK terms. However, we have to dispute.

Citibank has bought a lot of new companies - I think they are trying to do a mass sweep of all the cardholders it has now.

Not sure of your groundpoint outside of Chap 13.
Its always a decision - should I challenge, or should I just lay low for another few months and not stir up any hornets.

The good news is you are not up against the wall on any timeframe about this debt. Take as long as you want to fix it - it'll go.

I think that I'm going to lay low for a little while on this one. My brain is tired from trying to figure it all out! LOL Credit repair is like a part time job to me now! I'm going to focus on the other disputes I have going right now.

But what about the fact that I haven't rec'd a letter? What are the legas aspects of that. What if they are sending it to a really former address. I just find it really fishy that I look into my credit reports for the first time in YEARS and all of a sudden I have a new collection agency on my a$$. Any thoughts?
