Ok... Back in 2001 my college reported me 60 day and 90 day late for a "student loan", that was actually unpaid library fines ($170).

I wrote them and asked them to delete it from my credit reports, but they refused. At that time they also did a non-PP credit check.

So... I wrote them again a couple times, and in the last letter demanded that they delete the item or else I would pursue action against them for the non-PP credit check. Well, I just got a very strage reply...

The college official did not reply AT ALL to the non-PP claim. Instead they responded to points that I had made in a previous letter, and SENT ME the form that they used to update my credit report. It's called a Universal Data Form (UDF), and has boxes to fill in amounts past due, days late, etc....

Well, they had updated the description to "educational fee" from "student loan", and left the boxes for 60 and 90 day late completely empty.

Should I dispute the item then with each of the credit bureas as "never late"? I have a copy of the UDF, and this version doesn't show me as being late.

Or should I could follow up with a real ITS letter for the non-PP credit check. The college chose not to respond to my last letter, so that might mean they are uncomfortable and know I'll win a non-PP case.

    Which tact should I pursue?

Has anyone else seen a Universal Data Form?

Did you still owe the library fines? If you did, then I'm afraid that they probably did have PP.

No. I had paid the library fines within a couple months after I got the first letter. They had been paid for a year or more when they did the non-PP credit check.
