Hello all, first post from a newbie here. Recently pulled my report since i'm trying to get things cleaned up. Have a collections account from Tampa Electric(TECO) dating back to July of 99. I spoke with TECO and they stated that I can still pay them, and they will report it to the CA's stating that it is a $0 balance. My question is, since the account will be settled with TECO, and everything will be a $0 balance, what do i need to do to get these comments off my report. The other issue with this same account, is that it was first reported to TRU by MAF COLL SVC in 05/2000, but was then reported a 2nd time by ONLINE COLL in 03/2004. Since both of these are from the original account with TECO, is there anything i can do to get either/both of these removed?

utilities don't report to CR's. so if you pay TECO, they will not report as paid. However, once you pay TECO directly the accounts the CA's have are invalid, as they obviously don't own the debt that you paid TECO for (not to mention I certainly never sign a contract when I get my power turned on, don't know about you). So, especially if the debt is small (and if it makes you feel better to pay it) go ahead and pay TECO, as debt validation with CA's will be easier.

I would 1st dispute them as duplicate and see what happens if you do decide to pay, do it only if they are willing to delete.
