Okay, before I do this. I need the opinion of the experts...

I've read that if someone puts you on a CC as an AU, that it can boost your score.

Is it true that you get their credit history, along with years that they have had the card??

Also, the person that is letting me be an AU, (my father) has two cards..perfect credit history, balances are low or 0....my question is , I dont want to take on a card that has too high a credit limit based on my income, because that will hurt me, correct?

    Here's the down low..
    Visa---11,000 credit limit, 1400.oo balance
Credit Union Visa----5,000 limit, $0.00 balance

My income is about $25,000 yr..dont laugh. :(

Both are about 10 years old...which one would be better if any...

Thanks for all your help...I dont want to do this if in any way it will lower my scores...they cant get much lower..(scared)

Thanks for all your help...HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

1*Yep good or bad credit history.
2*You aren't taking on anything as an AU.
3*Income has nothing to do with it.
4* If your fathers credit goes sour and his scores tank on this you will go down right along with him.

    Lbrown...

    Final two questions..

1.) Will this increase my scores if I become an AU? or am I wasting my time......

2.) Dad's Question..." Do I have to have an actual card to be an AU or can my name just be listed on the acct?"

Thanks again for all your help, Im on the road to recovery...

Being an AU will help your credit.

They will issue you a card if he adds you on to the account, but he can keep it/destroy it.

Yes, AtlantaGA is correct. They will send a card, but your father can have it sent to him and he can destroy it. You will pick up the history.

Your income isn't on your credit report, so it won't affect your score. What may be a problem is when you have to list your income and then they see all that credit. But it usually says you're an AU, so you should be OK.

And as for the comment that if his credit ever goes south, you're screwed, that's not necessarily true. You just get taken off as AU and then dispute the line.

I say go for it, at least with the credit union card.

    Re: Re: Scared!!

This will most likely increase your scores. I've read examples of this where someone's score went up by almost 80 points!

or, look at it this way: My DH was AU on my Sears card, and it went 180 days late. I had his name removed from the account, and then disputed it off the Credit Reports. His score went up by @ 70 points on his EXP report after the TL was removed.

So, if your dad ever defaults (not likely i bet) you can always have your name removed, and not lose many points. Thats the beauty of being AU on a good account. It can only help you. You're lucky.
