Sears conversion to Mastercard

I posted on this a few weeks ago. At that time, I was considering converting my 20+ year Sears store card to a Sears Mastercard, or asking for the mastercard in addition to the store card.

Since then, I got a letter from them saying that to get the Mastercard (in additon to the store card), all I had to do was to mail in the certificate and I was guaranteed approval.

I would like to call and ask for a conversion rather than a new card for a number of reasons. I want to ask them to not pull a hard; I want to feel them out for a CL increase from my current $6500; I am afraid that with my high utilization on other cards, they may only approve me for a "toy" Mastercard with a $500 or $1000 limit; I want to ask about BT rates.

If I get the conversion and a good BT fee, I intend to start shifting my balances around so that I can get lower APR's on my other cards. Most have offered me very low BT rates, but I have to pay down the balance before I can take advantage of them.

This conversion would help me a lot in the long run, so I do not want to screw it up. I have not been able to get other cards because of my high utilization.

    Any suggestions before I call?

And, who do I call? Retention? Customer service? Who is most likely to give me what I want? And, do you have the number? I searched old posts and could not find a number.

Just a brief history: Perfect credit, but high utiliztion. Very few inquiries. Score is just over 680, which seems to be a majic number with Sears.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

MANY PEOPLE HAVE GOT "UP-TO" 30 TIMES THE SEARS CARD CREDIT LIMIT (on M/C)...(won't happen in my case)...

They haven't asked me yet to trade...

IF IT IS A "HARD"...I would say NO...but that is me...

TRADE IS NOT A "PERMISSABLE PURPOSE"...especially since they do a "SOFT" EVERY SINGLE MONTH (even if I don't use the card)!!!
