They are so stupid. I can't believe how stupid they are. Now, as a rule, I certainly don't begrudge anyone's stupidity. After all, the normal distribution (not to mention "regression to the mean") ensures some intellectual balance within a given population, and no individual can be held responsible for what providence and inheritance have bestowed. Even so, it's worth noting for the record that Sears only hires STUPID people to fill openings in its credit department.

Here's my quick anecdote. Yesterday I received a letter congratulating me for being upgraded from the regular Sears Card to the Sears Gold MasterCard. Get this. The letter said that they would AUTOMATICALLY CHECK MY CREDIT and UPGRADE MY ACCOUNT (or, presumably, deny the upgrade if my credit was poor). "If you wish to accept your upgrade, do nothing," the letter said. Otherwise, I could call a toll-free number by September 15 to reject the new card. Well, I began to wonder if they would generate a hard inquiry. Also, I wanted to know if they would re-age my account to new. Sears is my oldest tradeline (from 1983), and that 19 year history certainly augments my scores. Moreover, I just don't want any additional hard inquiries right now. So I called them. THREE DIFFERENT PEOPLE HAD NO IDEA WHAT HARD VS. SOFT INQUIRIES WERE. Also, NOBODY COULD TELL ME IF THE ACCOUNT WOULD RE-AGE TO NEW. Somehow I believe the former is likely, while the latter is less likely. Even so, since nobody there was trained well enough to answer these questions, I just went ahead and declined the new card, even though the APR and LOC would have been substantially better. On the other hand, I have too many bank cards and not enough retail credit in the mix anyway. So to hell with those stupid, stupid people. :)

Damn,Psychdoc(LOL)....hard to believe this is you speaking this way since you are SO NICE.

I guess I can drop my VALLEY GIRL dialect when talking to you in the future(snicker).

Sears is a bunch of morons & I R-E-F-U-S-E to do business with those azzholes for any reason;they pissed me off WAY BACK about my account & I promptly paid them off & cancelled my account.

But this came after a major fight with customer svc, credit svcs,& executive relations;my efforts fell on the convicts they have answering the phone lines.

Just to let you know, I got this letter in January. I accepted the offer, old sears card was limit of 600 (or so) new MasterCard limit was 7800.

They did not do a hard inquiry anywhere and the new line has the same open date as the old card (mine is not as old as yours, 1990 open date)

I do not know if they did an AR search or not as I never checked.
