Before I was 'enlightened' about all this stuff, I paid a LARGE payment to bring my Sears balance to $0 about 3 years ago. They offered to clear my previous two years of lates as a THANK YOU, but they never did.

I went to the searscard.com website, and sent two separate messages to their customer service area, using the CREDIT REPORT category, and told them that though I had no documentation, I appreciated them and hoped we could continue a good business relationship.

To my surprise, they did just what they had originally said they would do. They went back and cleared out a TON of 30s,60s,90s from the past.

There are still a couple of recents that I am arguing were due to incorrect contact information they were using after a move, but we will see how that goes. Anyways, was a nice surprise!

    Brian,

    Congratulations!

We had a similar situation with Sears a couple of years ago before we found CN. The account had been an R5 about 3-4 years prior, but had had a perfect payment history since.

We asked if they HAD to report all of the late history and we had the same result as you, they deleted all of the late history.

They added a notation to the comments in the CR that says something like "previous dispute now resolved, reported by credit grantor."

The comment has never been a problem for us in any way. The account is now "paid as agreed."

It's definitely nice when these long term creditors are willing to do a goodwill adjustment like that. We'll probably keep that Sears account open forever because of it.

By the way, the address we used was :

    Sears NAAC
    ATTN : Credit Bureau Desk
    13200 Smith Road
    Middlebrook Heights, OH 44130

Great....now I know it's personal. I've long suspected that they didn't like me! LOL.

Glad to hear that they can and will do the right thing. I've been fighting with them for more than a year now and can't seem to get anywhere. I hate that it's going to end up in a lawsuit, but if that's what it takes. I've often wondered.....if I could just get hold of someone at Sears who would really listen to me that they would see that I'm not trying to get out of anything or get any favors from them. Heck, I paid them every single cent I ever owed them in full years ago, they just never reported it correctly (my acct should have had a zero balance and pays as agreed for 3-1/2 years, instead I've been stuck with a recurring $200+ charge that they even admit is not mine). I've even sent them copies of my canceled checks, etc and they act like I've commited some kind of crime here. Ugggghhhh. I'm so frustrated with them.

It's nice to see businesses retain good customers like yourselves for life by working with them and listening to their needs. On the flip side of the coin, it's sad that they will lose customers like myself. I don't know if I will ever get over my anger towards them over this unholy mess and I've sworn I'll never step foot in a Sears store again. I could probably be persuaded to though.......If they would do the right thing just one more time!

Congrats on your dealings with Sears!

Thanks, I *REALLY* didnt expect any results, because it was just a cheesy web-based form, and the resulting messages that came back to me both times (tok a couple of days each time to get a message back) read as follows:

    "Thank you for contacting Sears.

We received your email request to review your credit bureau and we have forwarded your message to the appropriate department.

If you have any comments or questions, please email us or call us at 1-800-917-7700. Thank you for visiting SearsCard.com and please remember to shop www.sears.com for great savings everyday."

But the rep(s) *DID* include their name on the messages, which I would have definitely used in further messages had they not responded.

Now if I can *just* get them to remove a couple of recents, then I might be OK on an FHA loan at the end of this year. Cross your fingers!
