Sears, Equifax, RMA

    I had a Sears account that I settled with RMA on.

    Sears reported it last activity of 10/1996 ACCOUNT TRANSFERRED OR SOLD

    I settled with RMA in 2000 and they placed a new listing that says last activity of 6/1997 - SETTLEMENT ACCEPTED ON THIS ACCOUNT

    Here's the kicker. I didn't even request an investigation into SEARS when I disputed a few of my derog accounts. But they verified all of the accounts that I actually did dispute and then included the SEARS and it says THIS ITEM HAS BEEN DELETED FROM THE CREDIT FILE!

    I didn't even request that one to be deleted. I was going to use it to get them to delete the RMA account from SEARS that I settled!

    What to do now?

    Same Here. I had a Sears acct that was sold to RMA deleted from TU. RMA is a scumbag collection agency. They will lie, cheat, and break the law to extort money from you. They will also reage the acct. to keep it on your CR longer. They have done this to me and I plan to sue them very soon if it is not deleted from my EQ report. I have the proof, so I should get a couple thousand if I need to sue.

    Hmmm, so the moral here is Sears will come off if you settle with RMA?

    Is RMA trying to list the account from sears as an OC or CA?

    I'm not sure, they are listed as

    RMA Pur1 JAX Rms008 SEARS-XXXXXXXX
    INDIVIDUAL ACCOUNT
    06/1997 Open
    CHARGE-OFF

    SETTLEMENT ACCEPTED ON THIS ACCOUNT

    Its not listed under collections accounts or anything like that

    Thats what I suspected, since they are reporting as an OC the DOLA would go by the Date on the Sears account.

    RMA bought my Sears acct. and is listing as an O9 tradeline instead of as a collection type account. FL. law requires a line of credit to have a contract signed by both parties. I'd like to see them produce a signature of mine on anything older than 2 months ago!

    Zero down, did you have any luck with the 09 verses collection account with RMA. I am having the same type of problem.

    What is the difference between an 09 and a collection account?

    Could you elaborate a little on this ? I had SEARS , now w/ Portfolio Recovery , listed as 09, also live in Florida. What is the difference between 09 and R5 ? and by both parties do you mean the OC and CA ? or the CA and the individual who owes the $$ ?

    Sorry, What I meant was what difference does it make on how they report it . If it's 09 or R5, both bite.

    What I was trying to get across is that most collection accounts are listed in a seperate section on EQ reports.

    RMA instead had a listing that looked liked a regular tradeline - specifically an "open" type account (balance due each month.)

    They never validated and cancelled the account after an ITS.

    I just found an Equifax explanation page (so I'm answering my own question too!)

    Terms of Sale

    O = Open Account (30 days or 90 days)
    R = Revolving or Option (Open-end account)
    I = Installment (fixed number of payments)

    So, an O9 = Open Account (30 or 90 days) that is a Bad debt.

    R5 is a Revolving or Option (Open-end account) that Pays (or paid) in more than 120 days.

    Considering the R5, I think that awhile back I (or someone else) talked to someone at a CRA and they said that the R5 is used for currently 120+ days late and the R9 is for charged off accounts. So the R9 could be 5 years old, but the R5 is a current standing on the account. So theoretically, if a CA has your account listed as R5 instead of an R9, they are reporting inaccurately.

    RMA purchased my DH Citi account (DOLA 6/00) about 2 months ago, only received 1 letter from them. They now are reporting w/ EQ only (pulled PG so no status) but DOLA listed as N/A and lo and behold Citi has been deleted from EQ and TU ??? Still showing in EX as current and open (??)
