EFFECTIVE 08/01/2003 SEARS WILL NOT ACCEPT IN-STORE CASH PAYMENTS ON YOUR CREDIT ACCOUNTS OF MORE THAN $2,500 DURING ANY BILLING CYCLE. OTHER PAYMENT FORMS (E.G. PERSONAL CHECK) ARE NOT AFFECTED. THIS IS PART OF THAT 9-11 GARBAGE!!! MONEYGRAM AT WORK HAS SOME GARBAGE ABOUT LIMITS TOO WITH PAYING BILLS AND MONEY ORDERS AND PAYING FOR GIFT CARDS WITH CASH!!! I'M GONNA MAX MY $5,300 SEARS STORE CARD AND TEST IT!!!!!! WHAT ARE THEY GONNA' DO CALL THE POLICE???
In your case, I highly doubt it would be the police who would be called to deal with the situation....
THEY WILL HAVE TO TAKE CREDIT CARD PAYMENTS LIKE DIRECTV, COMCAST, QWEST...I CHARGE ON MY VISA/MC/AMEX/DISCOVERCARD FOR THE CHARGES... ...OR YOU WILL HAVE TO DO A BT!!! ...or just get a checking account...
GEORGE, Unless you introduce additional evidence of insanity, I have to conclude that it sounds reasonable to me. Most people use checks for payments over $2,500. As you yourself pointed out, you use a credit card to pay many of your monthly bills. If you, GEORGE, had held out and paid cash for all those bills, and paid your Sears bill in cash every month as well, then Sears would have noticed and kept accepting large amounts of cash. But without you, GEORGE, it just isn't profitable for Sears to accept large amounts of cash. It may be too late to test the new policy, because you didn't avail yourself of the old policy while you still could.
I PAY ON-LINE!!! I was just saying it WAS JUST A STUPID IDEA BECAUSE OF THE 9-11 GARBAGE!!! I DO NOT USE MUCH CASH...SO I COULD CARE LESS... BECAUSE OF THE 9-11 GARBAGE AND ALL THE "CASH" RESTRICTIONS...WE ARE MOVING TO A "CASH-LESS" SOCIETY!!! TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT...
Correction: If you had spent $2500 each month at Sears and then paid in full in cash each month, they would definitely have retained the old policy for you. I get the impression that you do pay in cash, but not in sufficiently large amounts to keep Sears in a state of collective sanity.
MANY PEOPLE ARE AFRAID OF A CASH-LESS SOCIETY IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH 666 AND THE "MARK OF THE BEAST"
Further correction: You don't pay in cash after all. You pay online. So it makes no difference to you. So Sears is insane. You don't use cash to pay your bills. Therefore someone else is moving us towards a cashless society.
GEORGE, Here we are talking past each other, while you raise the serious issue of a cashless society. It worries me that you and I both use credit to the neglect of cash. For you, the reason is probably convenience; for me, it's lack of cash. If the absence of the mark means that no one can buy or sell, then it's possible that a Social Security number would be the mark of the Beast in a cashless society. Maybe the CRA's are the Beast. Or, if all transactions end up based on VISA/MC numbers, then the credit card or its number could be the mark of the Beast in a cashless society. Maybe the banks are the Beast. So credit seems related to control, oppression, and tyranny. However, cash is easily stolen, and can also be used to fund illegal transactions or terrorist activities. So restrictions on large cash payments, which predate 9/11 by 20 years or so, may help reduce crime and terrorism. The only solution I can think of would be to avoid large transactions altogether. That way, you can still use cash to retain your privacy. And when cash becomes extinct, as it probably will within 30 or 40 years, then you can quit buying and selling altogether. I think at least some of the people who believe in the Beast, aka the Antichrist, would also support the idea that giving is better than receiving, and that we as individuals should try to give each other what we need without paying or being paid. It seems unrealistic, but there are a lot of areas where it could be applied immediately by individuals or voluntary associations. As an example, let me point out that people don't pay for the advice they receive on Creditnet.
Re: Re: Re: Re: SEARS IS INSANE!!! How will I go on? I hope I can find the strength to pull through this trying time. Yeah........ Anyway........... Bottom line is.....what is the point. You are freaking out like this is a big deal or something. How many people go into Sears with $2500 cash to pay off their Sears bill? You obviously don't, as you stated above, so why care?
George - don't do it - your money will never get past the metal detector. Besides, we all know that dangerous Arabs all walk around with gobs of cash in their pockets paying off their credit cards. After all, look at Osmaa bin Laden's FICO score.
Re: Re: SEARS IS INSANE!!! I WAS LOOKIN' ON THEIR WEB SITE!!! 1) FREEZER 2) REFRIGERATORS 1) WASHER + TAX AND DELIVERY... WHAT IF THEY MESS UP AND GIVE ME 0.00% TILL JULY 2004???
