    Hi all,
Does anyone have (or had) a Plus account with Sears? I'm looking to buy a new stove, and my pitiful $650 limit won't cover it. The CS guy says you have to apply with a pending sale, which means possible crash and burn in front of other customers :( How are they about opening these accounts? Oh yeah, my account is 2 years old, and was just upgraded to Premier in October. I called after I got the card, and they increased it from $450 to $650. TIA.

I'm not sure if this would work, but what about buying it online?

I don't know if they would outright deny the purchase because it's more than the card limit or if they would offer to extend. But there would be no prying eyes to see a decline.

Another thing I forgot, if you register at the www.searscard.com site, you have online access to your card. One of the menu choices is for requesting an increase. You could try that and if they decline, call them for reconsideration, telling them that you plan to buy a stove for $x.

Pat, thanks for the reply. I was actually placing the order online, but stopped when I was almost finished because I didn't know if it would go through. I specifically asked the guy if I had to be in the store for the plus, and he said yes. Also, when I requested the increase in October, I told them I would be doing some remodeling in the summer/fall, and could I get an increase large enough to cover my appliances, but only got $200. He said only one per 9 months, period, so I can't try again. Don't know if that's true or not.

Oh well, guess I'll go LATE in the evening on a weekday or first thing Sat morning, so the crowd will be smaller, at least. :)

    Thanks again for the advice.

    Your welcome :)

I have one last thought. What about upgrading to a Sears Gold Mastercard?

They increased my wifes limit from $1800 to $9800 when they upgraded her.

Otherwise, good luck on the purchase. I know what it feels like to be shot down. I bought a grill at Sears and applied at the register for the regular Sears card to get 10% off. DENIED! Two people in line behind me. Yeeeshh! I hated that :)

We got a Sears Plus account last Feb. The only positives on my husband's cr were listing him as an au on 2 friends accounts, and a 3 month old auto loan. Several negatives listed.

I think his score was probably low 600's. We did not think we would qualify, so it seemed pretty easy to us. It seems like you would have a good chance since you already have an account with them. We cannot get a regular Sears account. The Plus is easier because it is secured by your purchase.

ALL SEARS CARDS ARE SECURRED...BY THE "STUFF" YOU BUY...READ THE RECEIPT...(SECURITY INTEREST)...

    George,
What I meant is that the Sears Plus account is easier to qualify for because it is only for major purchases, which they could come and take back.

They can't take back your BVD's and laundry soap!
