I have a very old Sears card, used infreqently. I need a new washer and dryer and want to use Sears special deal of 0% interest. Are they likely to pull a credit report since I have not used the card in a couple years? If so, which one? It is reported monthly as a current account with $6000 limit. My payment record with them is perfect.

No, if you are already a cardmember they will not pull a report on you (unless you need a CL increase for the purchase in which case they may).

Odd that they still have the account open though... I have been told by several people and confirmed with a Sears employee that if you go over, I believe, 6 months (may have been a year) with no usage they automatically close the account. This was on just the plain Sears account, not sure if this policy is still in effect or if it applies to their relatively new Mastercard product.

That happened to me with my regular Sears account. I also confirmed the fact with Sears customer service that they will close your account if it is inactive.

I called them and they did reactivate the account. Don't think they pulled an inquiry on me or an AR inquiry. Sears did look at my account payment history and I believe that is what they took into consideration to reinstate the account.

    kirk,

They didn't pull credit report when you request limit increase but you have to wait every 9 months between increase. You can request limit increase through the automated phone system or account online access. They pulled credit report monthly from TransUnion and it is soft inquiry. So it doesn't affect your credit score.

I have had my SEARS card since 1978...HAS NEVER BEEN ON "INACTIVE" STATIS...

I only use it for the 0.00% (no payments/no interest for some # of given months) and 10% OFF DAYS...

IF FOR SOME REASON THEY DO PUT IT ON "INACTIVE" STATIS...WALK...LET THE SALESMAN LOSE THE SALE...DON'T LET THEM CALL FOR REACTIVATION.

MY CARD SAYS 1979...MAYBE THAT IS A SPECIAL CODE FOR "YOU DUMP THIS CUSTOMER...YOUR IN TROUBLE"??

I THOUGHT IT WAS 1978...I PULLED IT OUT...IT IS "EXPIRED"...HOW STUPID...NO NEW CARD CAME!!! NEVER DID EXPIRE BEFORE!!!

    George,

Sears Card shouldn't have expiration date except Sears Premier Card.My
Sears Premier will expire at ehe end of the year. I don't know they will sent me a regular Sears card.

I just looked. My goes back to 1972. It says it expires in 5/02. It is a Sears Premier card. I have used it maybe 10 times in 30 years. I know it is still good because they just called me this week with an offer to convert to the new card (Mastercard or Visa, I'm not sure which) and they report it monthly as open.

My limit is over $6,000 and the purchase will be under $1,000. I just did not want any inquiries.

    Thanks for your help

Speaking of the Sears Gold MasterCard. Has any one had them automatically convert you std/premiere Sears card to the MC or do they always call and ask you if you want it as in Gumbo's case. I really don't need another MC or V but want to keep the Sears card open for the 0% apr offers and the 10% off days. Plus, it is one of my three "retail store" cards, the other two being Walmart (formerly Wards) and Marshall Fields (formerly Daytons).

    jaj1701,

My brother's Seras Card automatically converted into Sears Gold Mastercard and I have to apply dor for one. They didn't convert mine.
