Hi, There is a bad account with Sears on my credit report that charged off in 1999. I want to clear it off my credit. It has gone through two collection agencies I believe, but nothing has ever come of that. It currently shows on my credit only as CBUSA Sears. I got a letter a while back in the mail letting me know that my account with Sears was now owned by Citibank, as CB bought Sears' credit portfolio. What's the best way to proceed with having this removed from my credit? Do I need to contact Sears, or Citibank? Should I demand to see proof that it is my account by asking for written proof and documentation from Citibank? Any advice is most appreciated!
Oh, I meant to mention that I did dispute this last summer, but nothing came of it. Then I received the letter telling me that the account was now owned by Citibank.
