I defaulted on Sears in 1999, I think and have never heard anything from them. Should I try to negotiate some type of settlement, or let it wait till I hear from them?

You can negotiate some type of settlement. They may need to pay the entire amount or partially. You make sure to ask them for reopening your Sears account. Sometimes they will agreed.

Sears is the worst to deal with. They will demand 100% to settle. When I helped a relative negotiate a lot of credit card debt, Sears actually sued because we only offered 75%. Most other CC companies took 15 -20%. A few, like Penneys just walked away. I ended up paying Sears 80%
