Second cardholder/AU revisited

    Hi,

I have a question- I have built back my credit from bad to very good (732 FICO) over the past 3 years. I am soon going to apply for a mortgage with my boyfriend who has no credit to speak of. I recently added him as a cardholder on my Amex Blue account in the hope that this would help to establish for him some kind of credit history. Is it true that he will "inherit" my good credit history by being associated with me through the Amex card? He has only been a cradholder for two months and made two payments. I would appreciate any information on how I can help him get out from under the "no credit" (which seems to be viewed as negatively as bad credit) status.

    Thanks!

I have terrible credit and my friend put me on their Amex Gold and canceled me a year later. I never used the card or made one payment and it shows up on all my reports as Amex pays as agreed and terminated. It also shows a joint account. Hope this helps

I'm not totally how this works with all cards. Some just give the same account number - but issue a card with the Au's name on it. I think maybe Amex does it differently and gives another account number.

So... with Amex, I'm not sure if he'd inherit your history or not. Hopefully, he will.

My mom put me on her Sears card and I'm still waiting for it to show up. I've not used the card - but I've got their account number so hopefully anything SHE does will report on mine. (my mother has about the best credit in the world).

So, your question may be Amex only. Did he get a different account number?

Yes, he got a separate account number although I am obviously ultimately responsible for paying the bill as his charges are on my statement.
