Hi, who has a secured card that reports and also has no limits....my computer is not working properly for searching. kev
My search is sucking too, but my computer is old ;-) I hope I am answering your question right. Do you mean, doesn't report limits? Capital One doesn't report limits. My understanding is that you apply for their regular card, and if you are declined, they will offer you a secured card. I cannot find any posts that say this for sure, and I don't want you to waste an inquiry. Direct Merchants Bank (don't laugh), just started reporting after 9 months of my having it. It started out secured, but I was able to get it unsecured after 6 months. They report my limit. I have read that local credit unions have nice secured cards, and they report to your credit report, but I don't know about the limits reporting. Those are the only two cards I can really answer about, but I know someone else can help answer. Is that what you mean? If it isn't, please take pity on me, its late ;-)
Thanks Manequinne, I need someone who reports limits also. Kind of like a loan secured by a CD....a card like this may look more like a loan. I am trying to avoid going to a bank is why I am doing it like this...chexsystems! thanks again, kev

It is unnecessary to run a Chexsystem inquiry to open a secured credit card account. Sure, the money goes into a collateral savings account, but you have NO transaction authority over the savings until you close the Credit card, or it is converted to an unsecured credit card. Either way, you get your entire deposit back (unless you default). Even I have a Negative Record with Wells Fargo Bank (too many overdrafts on my Checking account). My banker ran a Chex report, and it came back negative, but I reminded him that I was applying for a Credit card, not a deposit account - so the risk screening was unneccessary. He, of course, went right through to the credit card application. I've been very happy with my Wells Fargo Secured Credit Card. They report limits, and I have a small limit that I decided was okay for me. You can open with as little as $300 to as much as $5,000. You'll want to bring in CASH to the bank to exchange it for a Wells Fargo Cashiers or Official check to send in for funding the collateral account. The only downside to the Wells Fargo secured card is that your deposit does NOT earn any interest. The bank changed its policy a few months ago so they can allow non-US residents to open secured card accounts to begin building credit. If they didn't have a SSN, they couldn't earn interest for tax reasons. So now, no one earns interest on their deposit. David Kinder
