Well I will not get a card this time around however I did talk to a VP in centurion bank who later discussed our conversation with the President of the company.

She told me that the card that they will be releasing will be another secured optima card. This card will be nationally promoted. This card will include alot of features that the current one does not have.

She also said that someone would personally get in touch with me when the new card is released.

As far as my deposit they are overnighting it back to me. So for now I am happy.

I have read a few post that I also want to address. Question is why do we want the card so bad. First of all I think it is very easy for the ones who were lucky enough to get in on the deadline to view it as why the fuss, but I think we deserve the right to want the card just as much as you wanted the card. I also believe that if you had not been lucky enough to get it on the card you would feel the same way. That is what the big deal is. You had your reason for wanting the card and we have our reasons and we should be intitled to it. This response is just to the ones who question why we want to get a card so bad.

Neicy the information the execs at Centurion gave you is right in line with the information the excecs at NYC gave me. They also said that there would be plenty promotion. Like you I want this card. You see I had an AMEX regular card over 15 years ago and know the great benefits. I want to re-build with them. If don't mind let me know when you get your notice that the card is ready.

I hate the card will be Nationally promoted. I don't want everyone and their mother to have an Amex card, that defies the point of me having one :) Currently when I use my AMex card no one will ever know it is a secured card. When the new card comes out everyone will know it is possibly secured. That's sucks.

I think Amex will probably get rid of the Optima as a regular credit card and make it the secured card. They have the Blue card to replace it.

I don't think anyone is knocking you for trying to get the card. Plenty of people have been knocking the Amex secured card for a while.

The card offers no benefits outside status. It's not good for rebuilding. I have other cards for rebuilding, this one is for me. I think people starting out on rebuilding should pass this card up.

I also have 5 rebuilding cards so this card is not about rebuilding for me either. I would agree it is a status thing

    RE: Money Order just arrived

Well I got my money order back today. Now I am not as upset. I thought I was going to have to wait another 3 weeks to get it back.

This sounds like they will be reporting this card to the C.B.'s.

    Amex is over-rated...what stat

All this talk about Amex and the secured Optima card has me puzzled...I had Amex for many years and found them to be okay but not great. One piece of advice though...if you have a personal card with them, don't get a business card, because if anything goes wrong, all your accounts are linked and Amex will cut you off! As for status maybe there is some with the Black Card or real Platinum Card (not the Optima Platimum that starts as low as $1000 limit) but as far as the green or regular Optima they are not looked at highly. Go to any college campus where almost any student with no derogs can get one without any trouble. The Secured Optima has few benefits...they never report history, almost never convert it, and they over no line increases so what good is it? What status does it truly have? Will one get a high by taking their date out for a wild night at Pizza Hut and pray that it doesn't push them over their $200 limit????? hahaha My suggestion is if you have little cash, start with FCNB...if you do have money then go to your bank or broker and open an account with a gold, platinum, or Signature Card linked to it. You will not pay any rediculous fees or interest and ultimately your assets will grow. Most brokers offer these accounts for as little as $5000. With Fidelity, when you deposit $25,000 you can get the Amex Platinum Card. You don't even need to keep the money in it but you do need it to open it! I personally use the Visa Signature card, it is accepted at more places than Amex, has better perks / rewards, and like the Amex Charge cards it offers no preset limit. It can be had in a brokerage account too and with margin one can get a line of credit with 2% or less net cost...depending on your investment expertise. In closing, forget Amex...the truth is you will get no better service with it than without it and in the long run you cave yourself those rediculous fees they charge!

    RE: Amex is over-rated...what

Excuse my ignorance but I am not quite understanding. Are you saying I should walk into my bank with a lot of cash and ask for an account with a signature card? At the risk of everyone calling me a dummie I need to ask this.....What is a signature card account?...is this a Mastercard or VISA?..or is like a line of credit?

The whole credit card thing is overrated, I'm more impressed with a person who whips out his money clip, 1/2 inch think folded stack of 100's :)

Thats far more impressive than plastic, which all of us can accumulate. The big cheese is in green :) Paper green.

Visa has the Signature card. It is their top tier card...it is not issued by every bank as it has no pre set spending limit. For more info go to Visa's Website: http://www.visa.com/pd/consumer/us/signature/main.html
I know Merril Lynch issues it with their brokerage accounts. I have seen it with other banks/brokers too. My point is that basically if you have a reasonable deposit there are many banks that will link and/or issue you a credit card with the account.
