I've been lurking about the board for a while now and am trying to clean up some very poor scores. here is the situation right now I received this for a debt that is mine and I will pay(only $7 however I have been getting threatening letters from the CA..here is an excerpt: It is now assumed by this office that you have chosen to disregard the letter we have sent you previously (in which they said they would have no choice but to advise the OC (a dentist) to pursue the matter in court) We have an obligation to our client and can not ignore this, we have no other alternative but to offer OC one of three options: 1-Pursue through the courts..serve you with a summons and complaint and obtain judgement against you. This will be enforced through garnishing your salary or attaching any assets. 2-Leave this on your credit profile which will remain inplace for 7 years. This will inhibit you from obtaining any future credit untilk you resolve your debt with OC 3- Inconjunction with above #2 OC has the ability to report to IRS blah blah where it will be considered income and must be reported on your tax return---Failure to report this debt can result in stiff penalties by the IRS. Contact this office immediately. Your failure to do so will result in one or more of the above actions. I am in NY so there is no licensing required but I think some or all of these threats may be a violation. Can anyone advise? Thanks
Request validation. I've never heard of a validation over $7, but I guess it's possible. IF they validate, negotiate for complete removal in exchange for full payment.
I'm sorry that was $78.00! I was curious if the way they phrase the letter is a violation of federal law?
