Last week, I sent a validation letter to CA concerning a 1996/97 unpaid collection on a small dental bill. Today, some guy from the CA called and left a message to call him back. I know I will NOT be calling. My feeling is they are unable to validate (I don't expect them to)....but they wanna get paid!!
Should they have called after I requested a validation?

no they should not have called under certain certain circumstances. It might be against the law and it might not.

Just depends on certain factors. If you want to know more about it, just send me an email.
I'm not going to give that info out anymore on line because the collection agencies are watching and using such information against us.

so send me an email and I will be glad to tell you all about it and where you can read the actual law so you know the real story

Did you send a C&D letter with it? If not, then sure, they can call you. It's that simple, no email needed. No sales pitch needed.

I thought they had to suspend all collection activity until they validated. Calling could be considered collection activity.

No, just a striaght validation letter...a modified lizardking type. I just don't think they should do anything until they validate. No?

What Homecomings did to me was have several collection agents call the two days after getting my validation demand.

They threatened my mother, intimidated me, and I told them I wouldn't talk to them.

They said for $100 I could have a PAID collection.

I told them to stop it.

Three days later, the account disappeared off all credit reports and they never called again.

I sent estoppel anyhow, but I think it worked.

Send or fax them a letter telling them you will only communicate in writing. Whatever they say don't mean squat if it's not in writing.

In the letter remind them you are demanding a complete validation and nothing else.

To stop harrassing phone calls you don't even have to waste a stamp or a fax call.
simply tell them you won't accept calls from them and if they have anything to say they need ot put it in writing and send by mail. then hang up on them. what are they gonna do? Maybe call you a couple of times more and get the same answer every time and the same slam in their ear and what are they going to do but put it in writing and mail it to you.

That's the way you build a paper trail you can work with
Gets your wife some peace of mind too if she has had to listen to the crap all day and try to make excuses for why no payments. Teach her she don't have to put up with that crap and you won't have to fight with her when you get home.

Both of you will be happier because she will be in control instead of some idiot bugging her all day.
