I sent validation on a recent medical debt (another thread) today.
Do I risk getting a judgement placed against me for doing this?
The CA wont divulge any information about the debt, so I really had no choice. I have no idea what doctor they are collecting for or anything and they wont tell me.

I doubt it. Even if they tried to take you to court, they would be responsible for responding to yur request for validation.

You received no bill correct and had no notification of the debt until you saw it on your credit report.

You could also contact you medical insurance policy.... look at the service dates on the ca report and see if they have anything listed.

or ask for a printout of claims submitted this year( whatever year is in question)

    correct. no clue about it.
when i talked to them they claimed they spoke to 'a female' in 2001 about it. this is a lie. no matter, ill hope to take care of it with validation.

I found the OC on this, and I spoke to them. They said there is nothing they can do. Even if I paid them, they'd just forward it to the PoS CA.

If validation doesnt work..I guess this one will remain on my report for the long haul.

was there some sort of billing error by the OC? I do not want to get into your business why this wasn't paid because it aint my business plus you definately should avoid getting too specific with stuff like that on a public forum

anyhow... The validation route is definately a good thing... Like stated in a different post.. you have a 50/50 chance of the CA having the proper documents proving the debt was yours... If they do and you decide you want to pay it I would keep pressing the issue with the OC.. Always ask from someone higher in the chain if a rep can't help you

it is for an emergency room visit as far as I can tell.

problem is, I have a few children (not to be too specific), but a fairly large family.
there is always someone at the doctor or hospital for one reason or another.
one of my children has a heart condition as well.

so...my reports have many medical collections just for the fact that it is damn near impossible to keep up with them all.
when I know about them, I pay them if that is what you are asking..I respect doctors greatly.

With all of the bills for medical stuff I get in the mail..it is hard. on top of that I get tons of insurance claim forms each week.

top that off with the fact that my work requires me to fly out of the country at a moments notice.

This particular bill though appears that it may have been for me, but Im really not 100% sure about it because the hospital doesnt release medical info over the phone.

I will not pay the CA. They became rude. I will not tolerate rude behavior. I'll pay the doc, I'll pay the OC, I wont pay the CA.

All of the collections that I have validated have been really recent. I figure the worst that can happen is I have to pay them off. I only send the validation if I know I may have to pay it. I'm thinking, and really, what do I know? But I'm thinking that if they take me to court, they'll actually have to give me the opportunity to pay it off first. I've pretty good success so far. 4 down, 2 to go! Good luck. Hope they fold pretty quickly!

Hmmmm well it sounds like forcing the CA to validate is the thing to do...

don't talk to the CA on the phone.. send strong demanding letters for them to validate and if you want to offer a settlement down the road make sure you make them delete the tradeline. They will give you hard time but don't give up and keep your cool :)
