    Good Morning!

Has anyone here had any experience dealing with a past due Fingerhut (the OC) account? I have a very past due $850 account that I am thinking I should settle but I am not sure what to expect with the process. (I havenâ??t tried to settle anything before). Fingerhut stopped contacting me ages ago about the account and Iâ??m not (currently) receiving anything from the CA that has it, but it is on my credit report and I am trying to clean up my credit.

I know a CA has the account now, but since I need to locate their letter, Iâ??m not sure if it was purchased or assigned or even who it was exactly. When I find the letter, should I send a settlement letter to the CA and copy Fingerhut? I want to be sure that if I get an â??agree to deleteâ?? that it is approved by both of them since I have heard horror stories about the original creditor not agreeing to delete a negative listing after you have settled the account with a CA. Here is a question that just occurred to me: If the CA purchased the account, then why would I need to contact the OC about agreeing to delete? Does that â??ruleâ?? only apply when the debt is assigned to a CA?

Is it just better to settle with the CA for deletion and challenge the OC for validation later? I donâ??t know how hard it will be for the OC to validate but in this case I am guessing it wonâ??t be too difficult. 

Or, perhaps I should settle with the CA and then send a sob-story letter and my receipts proving that I paid the CA to the OC asking for a deletion based on my sob-story?

Iâ??m sorry for asking so many questions I am just very worried that I will botch up my first attempt at settling a debt, and the absolute last thing I want is to have my settlement offer rejected and the CA back in my life harassing me for the full amount.

    Thanks for your advice!

Fingerhut went bankrupt so I am not sure who bought up all their accounts. That is why they are not contacting you.

My server is slow today, I apologize for the triplicate postings. How embarrassing!

Very interesting. I didn't know they went bankrupt. That really adds a new element into this mess. I wonder...if I sent them a vaildation letter what the odds are that nobody will verify? (LOL!)

Not to rain on anyone's parade but I disputed an acct w/ Fingerhut and it can back "verified" on all 3 CRA's. I was only disputing the status not a collection though. They keep reporting me. They just updated in 7/02.

Fingerhut might have gone bankrupt but they are still trying to collect past due accounts. I am currently in a dispute with their collection department which is Credit Control Division owned by Axysys National Bank. They are rude and really don;t care what the laws state!!!

I recently sent Fingerhut(OC) a dispute letter stating that I disputed the accuracy of the information they were reporting. This account is charged-off and I also stopped receiving correspondence from them a long time ago. When they responded to my dispute they did so by saying that in order for them to investigate my dispute I needed to fill out an identity theft form and the letter also stated "We recently received your letter stating that you had never authorized the use of your Fingerhut Advantage Credit Card. If you do not return the enclosed form completely filled out we will continue reporting the account in dispute."

Has anyone ever had this kind of response from fingerhut when disputing with them? Any suggestions on what to do?
