I just settled a debt with a collection agency for a phone bill. The settlement offer was for 20% off the balance. I paid this amount 2 weeks ago. I got a letter in the mail from a new collection agency trying to collect the rest. Did the original creditor violate the first agreement with the CA and me by sending the remain balance to a new CA? I still have the letter from the first CA stating the agreed settlement offer, and once paid the account would be closed. THe check has cleared my bank.
Did the letter state that they would accept the 20% as payment in full? Also, did you ask for deletion when you paid the 20%? Greg
I doubt that they said the would delete it for 20% of the balance. You will be surprised when you see your credit reports! I'd be willing to bet it will say "Settlement accepted on this account"
