Who has settled with AMEX and for what percentage? This is the only thing on my report and I am trying to buy a house next year. I would appreciate any information provided (letters written, contact persons, etc).

    Thanks!!

I'm also interested in hearing about this. I have an unpaid AMEX chargeoff from early '97, which is my last derog. I've called them to initiate a dialog to get it taken care of. The CS rep told me that they won't budge as far as reporting goes, but I'm thinking there has to be someone else I can deal with. Thanks for any help!

Amex doesn't budge on reporting, but something charged off in 1997 shouldn't still be reporting. You will need to pay it off before getting another card with them, though.

Whew . . . old post but, Direred (haven't seen you since AOC went down) is correct in terms of reporting and settlement.

For those interested, AMEX does offer what they term an "oasis" program wherein if you pay off the old charge-off, they will issue you a new card/account. It is actually a pretty fair proposal if you like AMEX products and financial reviews that often accompany them, lol.
