Sherman and liscence requirements

    O.K. Bear with me...

Sherman purchased my recent Sears account. They assigned this deebt to Pioneer Credit Recovery for collection. I recieved a letter from Pioneer and answered with a request for validation. I have heard nothing back.

Sherman, I assume is acting as the OC in this case, because they assigned this to another CA. Sherman is still considered a CA and still bound by the FDCPA, correct? Yeah I think so too.

Pioneer is a liscenced CA in my state. I haven't checked NY yet. they have not answered my validation request, nor placed this account on my report.

    Still with me...

Sherman HAS placed this account on my report and lists it as "Sherman Acquisition" Now from what I can find from my state collection agency liscence search (through the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation) is that "Sherman Acquisition" is NOT liscenced to collect under that name, or any of the other 16 names they list on the letter I got from Pioneer. I can't tell if Pioneer is related to Sherman or not. If they are, then I do have them on a violation for reporting without validating. If they are not related...I have to attack Sherman for not being liscenced in my state...

    Still hanging with me?!?...

So, does the specific name as it appears on my credit report have to be the exact same name they have to be liscenced with in my state? They couldn't use an alias name to report could they? I don't know if I'm making this clear enough...let me try an example...

"ABC Collection" is liscenced to collect in my state, but also use the alias "ABC Recovery"... they report said debt on my report as "ABC Recovery" instead of their legally liscenced name "ABC Collection"...is this a no no?

But like I said, I cannot find Sherman Acquisition or any related companies liscenced in my state unless Pioneer is related to them...

Does any of this make sense...? It's late and I have to work in a few hours, but I couldn't sleep until I asked...lol

    Thanks...

I have Sherman Acquisitions coming after me after buying out a Sears charge-off. They turned to account over to Alegis Group LP for collections.

I found some information about Sherman and all the names they work under from the BBB site. They have about 15 other names and a very bad reputation.

Could you tell me where you found their state licensing info?

I have Sherman too. They just bought out our two Sears CO accts. They have reported this info to my wifes bureau (as they are in here name only), and she lost 70 points within 1 month.

I sent a request for validation immediatly.

    Sherman Acquisitions.....scum suckers!

OK TJ - I'm fully caffinated now. I was in a similar (although not Sherman). I sent validation to the CA that bought the account, and to the CA the CA hired.

Never heard back, and nothing on my report :)

Sherman is the worst of the worst, but from what I've read, they will usually eventually screw up, then you settle for deletions :)

Has Sherman added in the last 30 days?

Sherman hasn't added anything on my CR yet, but the attorney they turned it over to pulled my credit report and it fell 18 pts in two days.

My questions is do i send the "dispute inquiry" letter to the Credit Bureau, to the attorney, or both? The "dispute inquiry 02" letter seems like it would be the letter to send to the attorney who pulled the account. Anyone know what to do?

I sent validation letters to both Sherman and the attorney (after they turned it over to him before the 30 day limit). I haven't heard from the attorney except one stupid phone call from someone in his office who wanted to argue. I just told them when they validated fully i might speak to them and hung up. No more calls.....but who knows what the jerk is doing as i speak. I'd like to get the pull off my credit report, but i'm not sure about those dispute inquiry letters????

If he pulled your report after he got your validation it's a 1000 dollar violation

He pulled my CR the day after he mailed the initial letter to me. He didn't have the validation ltr.

Can i send the inquiry dispute letter to the credit bureau? and, can i send the 02 inquiry dispute letter to the attorney which informs him he pulled my credit report without permission?

jlynn...I don't know who you were asking...the thread kinda went on a tangent with everyone needing answers...

Sherman has reported this account on my EX report only, after I recieved the Pioneer CA letter and sent Pioneer a validation request... I still don't know if Pioneer is a division of Sherman or a separate CA...

I'll be drafting a letter for Sherman also...

Oh great. Sherman just purchased my sears chargeoff too, and some other CA called me and informed me they were collecting 'on behalf' of sherman. Wonder what the heck that means. I told them I wanted all further communication in writing, fully expecting a letter from them within a couple of days. Its been over a week and nothing! I have a validation letter all ready for them, but now that I read how scummy they are, and how they'll hang themselves if given enough rope, I might change my letter a little. Ya know, make myself sound clueless, lol.

How does one find out if Sherman is licensed in a particular state? Or would the CA acting 'on behalf' be the one who has to be licensed? I'm confused!

Sherman bothered me constantly until they received validation...your lucky. Then they turned it over to their attorney, LOL.
I just read that info on another thread....actually a link to another site...creditboard.com....check it out....the sticky notes....invaluable!
To check licenses log on to your State's Attorney General site for "CA" or "collections".
