Three years after my Chapter 7 was discharged, I'm gotten my FICO up to 688. Still, I don't think my credit is that good. But I needed new tires, and Goodyear was offering a $40 rebate for its credit-card holders. Because I haven't had an inquiry in two years, I figured I could afford having Citibank (which issues the Goodyear card) pulled a credit report, fully expecting the instant-approval computer to laugh at me. I was shocked when the service manager told me I was approved for $500. It was my first instant approval since the BK. What's strange is Citibank was one of my creditors in the Chapter 7.
Do you know what report they pulled? If so how many bad items were listed on that report and you said you filed chp 7 on Citi, also if you don't mind how many other baddies were listed on your report? I was wanting to see if I could get in back with Citi as I closed one of their accounts(Citi SD though) in 1998, and they don't seem to be willing to re-accept you if you closed something with them in the past, and they are still listed incorrectly on my credit report as consumer disputes information, closed account. The funny thing is I never disputed the listing as it is a positive tradeline but was only open for 6 months at the most december of 97-June 98, I just closed it because I didn't have a need for the account back then(from my college days-of receiving a free shirt or hat to sign for a c.c.) If they approved with bankruptcy from them, then perhaps Citi uSA will accept an old Citi member and that being said A.) I need a retail account, B.) I only have 3 recent inquiries on experian(the assumed report to be pulled in Ohio by Citi), C.) I don't need new tires because I just bought a new car, but D.) It would always come in handy for other products and services offered through Goodyear, that and eventually my New Chevy Impala will someday need new "bologna skins"( a trite term inherited from my Dad). I am really considering applying, although I have ample credit 11 open positive accounts( car hasn't started reporting loan through Bank One yet), so maybe perhaps they wouldn't approve on too much credit. I guess I will just see. Any info is greatly appreciated. PS: I too have/had a FCNB unsecured MC account, don't know why I ever did, I don't even remember the application, it was opened in May of 2000, must have been a preapproval or something, barely ever used the card, has had a 0 balance for over a year also a cl increase in December of 2002 as well-weird company-no wonder they were shut down, I am just wondering if the accounts will be sold????, this is the oldest of my open tradelines(it hasn't reported as closed yet) except for 2 student loans(1 paid KSU, 1 open paying as agreed dept of edu.)
I can't tell you anything about if Citi will issue you another card if you once closed a Citi card. The Goodyear card appears to be one that came to Citibank when Citi acquired Associates, which owned Hurley State Bank. Goodyear was a Hurley-issued card. Citi seems to not to mess with Associates. I thought my Texaco card (which wasn't included in my BK) would be canceled when Citi bought Associates. But instead things improved because for the first time the Texaco card started to report to the CRAs. Still, I never thought I'd be approved for the Goodyear card, let along get instant approval. But it's not a card I'd apply for if I didn't need to use it right away. I applied because there was a "no interest for six months" deal plus a $40 rebate on new tires if you used the card.
They pulled Equifax. My ScorePower score is 675 after spending three years rebuilding after discharge. I have the BK and three negative accounts (two "included in BK" -- including Citi -- and one 5-year-old 120+ late) on Equifax. I think Goodyear is issued by the old Hurley State Bank, which is now part of Citi. I doubt I could get a Citi bankcard. I've read that Citi and Amex keep internal records forever, and neither will grant a card to anyone who doesn't repay what was discharged.
