I bought a computer on Shop NBC yesterday, and suddenly a hard inquiry from them appeared on my EQ report today. I never provided them with a DOB, SSN, etc.

How did his happen? Why did his happen?

Anyone know if I can sue them for doing this?

    Thanks in advance.

Credit reports can be pulled by your name and address.

Have you called them to ask why they pulled an inquiry?

No, I just found out about it a few hours ago when I looked at my report.

I've scoured their site for any info on pulling a credit report, but couldn't find anything.

So, if someone has just my name and address, they can pull my report and use it to find out my SSN, dob, etc?

    Frightening.

I meant have you called them to ask why they pulled your report.

No, I didn't call yet. I was going to do so in the morning... the kids are asleep, and I wouldn't want the yelling to wake them :)

Maybe they pulled to verify the shipping address you gave them?

Did they try to get you to apply for the ShopNBC card? That could be another reason for them looking at your report.

if you purchased the computer through "value pay" which means you paid for it in 4 or 5 monthly payments billed to your card every month they have to pull an inquery to see what your payment history on the card is. you see alot of people were getting pre -paid mastercards and buying things on value pay and only making one payment so now they check your status on the card.. hope this helps

No, I didn't apply for their card.

Heck, if they pulled my report just to verify my address, that's pretty scary.

I'll call them in the morning to see what's up.

I thought of that too. However, I didn't use the value pay option (I double checked to make sure).

Maybe it was a mistake...or maybe they just do it to all high-ticket customers.

they have no right to do it to any big ticket items. when you call demand why they pulled ur file and ask why you werent informed that they would be pulling it.

So you used VISA/MC/AMEX or DISCOVERCARD to pay for it???

    THEN NO "PP"

    Donna,

    George is right.

Sounds like you just ordered a computer and paid in full with your CC. If this is correct you have a No PP issue.

    Let us know.

    :)

"JOHN DOE bought XXXXX product from our company for $1,255.89"
"I need to confirm that JOHN DOE with account #4427-0000-2222-9999 lives at 1245 MAIN ST in CHICAGO IL"

The credit card company "CONFIRMS" or they call the customer to confirm the purchase.

A "HARD" IS 100% WRONG...EVEN A "SOFT" WOULD BE WRONG FOR A NON "NEW" CREDIT SALE...(NO APPLICATION FOR NEW CREDIT)...

i cked the site and found this:

Please note that the Value-Pay option is subject to credit approval and is not available on the ShopNBC Credit Card.

"SUBJECT TO CREDIT APPROVAL" means is the credit limit available to cover the charge...
You charge $1000...is there $1000 available on the credit card???

THAT DOES NOT PULL A CREDIT REPORT!!!

what can i almost guarantee is that shopnbc tried to get you approved for their cc, the idiot on the right is always saying all we need is your home address

i watch the shows they have on the weekends and they do not tell the truth

the digicam they provide is crap - the video card they show is crap too

i would suggest you cancel the order and buy the computer at dell - check techbargains or private msg me and i will help you get a better deal
