We are in a desperate situation, our closing is coming up and they said that we could not proceed unless these items were paid off completely. Should I just suck it up and pay then hope to get deletions on paid accounts off our credit reports later? Or (hahahahahahahaaa) attempt to get the money back This sucks because two of the accounts are defintely not ours, and two others are being reported incorrectly. But we are in a position, where we wont get the house if we dont. I hate giving up, tell me not to give up or tell me to go and pay it and work on it later. Della (bending over to the CA's, CRA's, & OC's)
Have you already notified the credit bureaus that they do not belong to you? Where are you in that process? Buckets
I have put disputes in today. But the turnaround time is bad. Our closing is in one week. All of this new information just popped up on the report out of the blue. Della
I am in a similar situation as you. I just got notice of a "new" medical bill by OC stating if I don't pay, they are sending it to collections. Frigging morons is all I can say. This bill is about 1.5 years old, from an emergency room visit. The hospital billed the insurance carrier, but the emergency room physicians always mess this part up. They **almost always** never look at your paperwork and bill you, instead of the carrier. A year and a half later, WTF?? I can't risk a collection showing up on my report at this time. Even though I would be able to get it off, it is just not worth losing a loan. I am paying the bill under protest , in which I send a letter to OC stating just that, CCCR. I don't think you forego any rights this way. Basically, you are saying you will pay the bill, to avoid any negative consequences that may result from you not paying, but you disagree with the bill (for whatever reasons) and reserve the right to fight it later. I will probably just file in small claims in a few months for the bill I paid. Because time is not on your side, you can call up the creditors and explain the situation, worse case scenario you will pay under protest, ask for a letter of deletion (immediately), or otherwise you will fight them. I can't tell you how a creditor will respond, sometimes they cooperate (always get in writing) and sometimes they just give the middle finger. I have had both responses.
I think it was Breeze who posted she had a letter for this type of Extortion. You may want to try getting a reply from her!
Hi, I am going to search for that letter. Do you have a copy to post? Sometimes I wish that everyone posts the letters they write, it would help making searching easier. I probably will have to pay under protest, but I will be damned if they get off with out a serious cat scratching fight!! Thanks a bunch! Della
"under protest" is good but doesn't work for every state. I know Ohio recognizes it but not sure about other states.
