Relatively new here. Here's the history: (Original Card) 12/2006 Trasferred written off $12,097 Purchased by NCC 1/2007 Last reported 3/2008 held until 2010 Balance of $25,537 -------------------------------------------------------------- I called the CA today because today was the first of the month and I knew they would try to get as much as they can. The goal is to get them down as low as I can. What I was able to negotiate today was $6500 to make the account paid/closed. They said they wanted 10K to delete it. I said no. I am going to call them back at the end of the month and see if I can get a better deal. With that said, in your experience, what would you do to get them to lower the offer they made? Is it better to delete it? Thanks
A deletion is always much better. Only you can decide if its worth $3500 out of your pocket. Whatever you do, get it in writing. Is this debt 2 years old or 5 years old, and what is the Statute of Limitations in your State.
Definitely get the deletion in writing if they agree to it. It's unlikely that if they want 10k to delete it, on the 31st they will go lower just because it's the end of the month. Don't expect to call in the last day, work that settlement, ask them to fax you a letter saying they will delete it, call them back to make the payment.
