Should I try to get my old Cap I back on?

I had an account with Capital One, TL $1500, open around 3 years, and a clean history. It was sold to Montery County Bank, and somehow when I disputed other items on my TU, the Cap 1 got deleted!

Would it be worth my efforts to try to get this account back on? Would it be more likely to help my score or not?

Is it an open account, or a closed account?

    Is Montery County Bank reporting?

How much does this matter? What other positive or negative accounts do you have?

If it was absent of negative notations, I don't see how it could hurt you.

Montery was reporting for the 7 months or so they had the account, then they sold it again... Kinda hard to build history when that kind of S#@t is going one!

This account is closed, was paid as agreed, no delinquency, and was open about 3 years. With the exception of a tiny First Premier line, this Cap 1 would have the longest histoy aside from car loans. It would also be my highest reporting unsecured CL.

I don't know how much closed accounts are worth, or how much they can impact your score.

Did you close this account? It does not sound like it, but I want to make sure. Any positive TL will help some. It looks good to the other creditors when you are looking for more credit for them to see that you had a good tradeline. If I remember correctly, not every bank reports so a quick phone call to the bank asking them to please report should do the trick. It might be pretty important especially if it is your oldest account.

The account was just sold off to another bank, so it still exists, but under a new bank/account number.
