Taking their place right behind 1) Equifax, 2) Trans Union, 3) Experian, 4) Innovis, and 5) ICS/Lakesite, it appears that a sixth CRA popped up in another thread on this board (link). This one, which is only a few years old and endeavors to track people who don't pay their final long distance phone bills correctly, is called National Consumer Telecommunications Data Exchange or by its abbreviation NCTDE. As I wrote in the other thread (sorry for the duplication, but rather than continue to hijack that gentleman's thread, I thought the info might be useful on its own): By their own admission, NCTDE "is subject to the provisions of the Fair Credit Reporting Act." Here's their web page: http://www.nctde.com/ According to their very amateur-looking web site, their stated purpose is "to promote the exchange of information about defaulted and/or fraudulent consumer telecommunications accounts among member carriers through the use of a database managed by a third party vendor." Moreover, "NCTDE has contracted with Equifax Telecommunications & Utilities Solutions, a division of Equifax Financial Services, for the management of this unique consumer-account database... Consumers are supported by a specialized team of information consultants at the Equifax Information Service Center." Here's the listed contact information: Telephone: 972-518-0019, extension 235 FAX: 972-518-2312 Mailing address: P.O. Box 167688, Irving, TX 75016-7688 Email: alice.haslam@gte.net NCTDE Executive Director: Alice J. Haslam Even thought I've never skipped out on a phone bill, I think I'm going to request my report regardless and see how they respond. Doc
Doc - thank god, I thought you'd left we newbies to come up with our own tricks. You are back -- right? Thanks for this info. CRA's are beginning to remind me of the mold in my house. As soon as you think you've battled it back, a new spore pops up somewhere else.
LOL, they are like house mold. Well, I managed to stay away from Creditnet for a whole week, but it was tough to do. Now that I proved I can do it, though, I suppose I will rationalize my relapse back into the depths of my addiction to this board. Doc
Doc Glad to see you back too. Anyway now on to bussiness. The big Bell's have created this monster in response to the deregulation of the industry that now allows competition for local telephone service. In the last three years these alternate local telephone companies have expanded from one or two storefront to television commercials and now regional companies that can rehookup anyone's phone. In there commercials many even state they dont care if you owe another phone company. In there early days these alternate companies were not viable alternatives to the real phone companies, but now their rates are competative. I'm sure there are plenty customers running up bills and skipping out on them. Many of the companies can even buy your telephone number, so you dont even need to get a new one.
Hmmmm, what's up, doc? Thought you were going to be "on vacation" for at least a couple of weeks, relocating and trying to get over the compulsion to check threads continuously... did you get moved, or at least set up to move? we need to set up a drum roll announcing the return! missed your observations,
Hmmmmmmmm, Maggie... No, we've not yet moved -- Allied Van Lines arrives July 5. I just couldn't stand being away from this board for another minute, so the "Creditnet Vacation" is cancelled. I somehow managed to curb this habit for 7 days. Yesterday I relapsed. Today I've spent about 2 hours reading the posts. Terrible. Doc
Vacations are good, but having you back is BETTER(for me(us) at least). Sorry to be so selfish. Glad your back buddy!
Doc, Boxes that need to be packed? mmmmmm, mmmmm, mmmm I don't even want to know how it's playing out that you're back on the computer, unless of course you got enough done lining up the move...now do you feel wonderfully productive for not doing CN while taking care of family business, and also semi-virtuous (and in control ) for curbing your CreditNet habit? Good luck with packing. I hope you are set to go, didcha' note that the addict thread is still kickin' ? same thing on the top 100 mistakes... while you were gone, for the first time since joining the board, I wanted to jump through the computer to wring someone's neck, then I finally realized you can't win with his posting replies. I also realized that my posting was getting to be way too personalized a reaction, so I disengaged. Wish you could have thrown in your two cents. I know you could have made a pithy observation or two. :0
