My state says that a defendant must be in the state to be served for a small claims suit. If not, I must use the regular court. Is this true for any other states out there? Sure complicates things like suing CRA's.
This is mainly to protect individuals who live out of state. Any company that does business in your state should have a registered agent in your state. You can usually find out who the registered agent is from the Division of Corporations. The registered agent (for out of state corporations) is who you serve for any law suite, whether small claims or otherwise.
From your ip of 24.4.255.230, it looks like you're in the Chicago, IL area. You can look up Illinois Corporations and LLC's at this site: http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/cgi-bin/business_services/corpsrch.s Here is the closest match that I see: Entity File Type Number Corporation Name LLC MST 00617571 PALISADES COLLECTION, L.L.C. They provide a lot of information on corps but not much on LLC's; to get an address you should call the office of the Illinois Secretary of State (217) 524-8008.
Interesting. I live in Anchorage, Alaska. I recently vacationed in Chicago. I am almost certain that Palisades isn't legal here but I will check again. Thanks.
