I have been trying to get an account deleted from Sears that is my husbands but I was an authorized user. It is charged off. Anyway, the first time I disputed it came back verifyed so I sent a letter to Sears asking to be removed as an Authorized user and delete the account. Well they did not delete but the changed the wording from "Authorized User" to "Not Reponsible" as if I am supposed to be happy with that. Th entire history is being reported and it effects my score as well. So I disputed it again tonight and said "Account history and details beings reported for account that I am not responsible for". We will see what happens. I suspect the wording change was put there so I could not dispute that I was not an Authorized User. Very sneaky

Demand that they produce a joint application with your signature or be prepared to delete. I did this with Discover Card. It took two months but they finally deleted my mom's account from my credit report.

I wish I had known that being the AU of a spouses account would be so problematic though. Apparently there are laws within the Equal Credit opportunity Act that mandate the AU's of Spouses be reported. It is going to be tricky because technically I did remove myself as an AU but they can legally keep the account on my credit report as a history. That is why they changed the verbage. If I disput that account as "Not my responsibility" they will say "Yes We know "Not Responsible" is on the credit report". But the histiory being reported causes me to be denied credit. And I think that is the point. They are using me as as leverage to get to my husband so he will pay. Actually We are settling with them right now (in the process) so I we'll see.

Oh my Gosh. How do you know he won??? I have the web page describing the case but how can I get info on whether he won or not? I have been axiously awaking a verdict!!!!! Thanks Diane

BTW-The ECOA has some tricky language in 202.10 if you get a chance to read it . It says "Users". You will see what I mean. What do you think? Thanks
