Got my first report today from TU. Was really putting it off, you know, with a BK less than a year ago. I just don't get it. Of the three creditors I chose to reaffirm/repay, whatever the hell they call it, they still gave me negative ratings on my report. Even my mortgage shows up as a BK and I am still paying and it was reaffirmed, 0 lates in 4 1/2 years! My car lease - spotless record for 4 years and they screw me by putting BK on it and wiping out my payments, my Wells Fargo Financial puts BK on it when I agreed to make payments when they dropped the interest rate to 10% and they allowed me to keep the furniture I bought. I realize I screwed up, but do they have to stab me in the back when I've at least been a good customer with them? How do I even begin to repair any of their negative credit? Even if I quit paying on my car lease, they just pick up the car, no questions asked. It can be trashed and there is nothing worse they can put on my CR. The car is in beautiful condition. I have had done all the required services. Should I just tell them to take it? It has 85k on it, is a '99 SUV and if I continue to pay for the next year, they will make almost $5k from me. Do they even care? Is a Household MC and $200 Target Guest Card even going to help? I just feel hopeless here. Claudia :'(
We know exactly how you feel Claudia. None of what you describe is "hopeless" however. We all come here in a mess, and we all start at the same place you are now, the beginning. Probably the hardest thing we've all had to come to terms with is the real world answer to your question, "do they care". The answer is no, they don't. This is maybe the hardest thing of all. They "say" they do, but they don't. I once knew a guy (very briefly) who beat his wife at least 3 times a week. Yet he'd be the first to profess his "love" for her from the roof tops. It is coming to terms with this fact which allows us to use "guerilla" credit correction tactics. We should not allow ourselves to "care" any more about them than they care about you. Even those whom you believe might be your friends here may turn on and attack you like dogs. Very VERY difficult. And yeah, it hurts. Every time someone comes along here and gives us all the "sermon on the mount" regarding the "morality" of the issue, I just laugh and know that ... well ... they just don't get it yet, do they? lol What I can tell you for sure is that you're not alone anymore, and you will get through this too, just fine. In fact you'll come out the other side a much better person. I promise. So here's the deal, you have exactly 24 hours to "feel" bad about it. But after that, we're gonna get busy and fix it, ok? .
Claudia, Hang in there, I been down in the dumps also but believe this place and all the great members will make a difference. Rest assured that you will find all the help and tools that you need to deal with any situation. It is not a easy process to restore credit but it sure feels good while you are doing it and start to see reports. Take it from a guy that was avoiding his credit problems for 7 years and now I am glad that finally I made a stance. You will have your ups and downs but what ever you do, do not let them bring you down even when everything seems hopeless.
You have have them on some violations of the bankruptcy code, which is much more serious than violating the FCRA. If you reaffirmed the debt, and they are still reporting it as a charge-off or something, they're violating the law when it comes to reaffirmations. Nail their hide to the wall!
Snickers, Congratulations! Taking the first step is the most important one. Stay the course. Ask the board every question you have. Chances are, someone has gone through it and can lend first-hand experiences and advice. A year from now, you'll look back and be "WOW'D" by how far you've come. Keep your head up and have a happy holiday. CardKid
I agree with the above. It's not hopeless. With the help of posters here, you'll find the violations, sue them, get your credit fixed and maybe get some money to boot.
