I have an account in collections, I want to pay it off and they seem reasonable enough as long as I am willing to pay. I don't want a "get outta jail free card", I acknowledge this is my fault and don't mind paying for all the crap I bought. Am I OK to work with these people or are they misleading me?

The deal we talked about is something like paying a big chunk up front and then monthly payments until its payed off.

Make sure the CA validates that the debt is yours and they have the right to collect it. If they do, then work out the best payment arrangement you can and pay off the debt. Get any agreement you make with them in writing. If they are willing to remove the collection from your credit report in return for full payment, that's even better. Good luck!

Hi thatguy! Generally that is what a CA will do. Of course, you have a right to request VOD to prove you owe the debt, that is up to you (of course it's well in your rights to do & a requirement that the CA must stop collection activities until they obtain the VOD from original creditor and forward a copy to you).

I'd suggest to do an arrangement that you and they can live with. Not too small but not too big. Have they sent you letters to let you know that they are handling your account?
