I had a citibank account from 1989(first year in college) It was charged off in 1991. It has long disappeared from my credit report. Last week I received a call from a company called Asset Recovery. They said they can still collect on this. They also said they would make an inquery on my credit report so that if I were applying for credit the possibility would exist that the credit grantor may ask about this inquery. The balance was very small but now that they have added 10 years of interest they are claiming it is about 2300. They wanted to settle for 300. The lady that called me (at work) also began reading from my credit report and saying that I have paid off all of my old bills and she said that she assumed that I could take care of this. When I explained about the SOL she asked to be transferred to my Human Resources Dept. How crazy is this? Anyone have any experience with this sort of matter?

What nerve??!! As if you're going to transfer her. What a crock!! I can't believe that they could put it back on your report, but I could be wrong. someone here will know tho! Transfer them to HR, that's a good one!!

They did not ay they could put it back on the report. She said she would make a soft inquery. I guess that was the most damage she could inflict.

Oh, sorry, my bad. I read it wrong. Still, she seems like she was a real piece of work. I hope you get it all straightened out!!

Thanks, I am not sure if I should even bother with it. Can anyone tell me if there is much damage they can do?

They called you at work? Did you get a name? Be sure you write down all details of that conversation for future records in case you have to sue. They violated more than enough laws!!

I most certainly would not talk to them again.

Do you know what state they are in (the CA)? What state are you in?

I got the lady's name and the company. I live in New York and they are from California. I have her extension. After she called, I went outside and called her on My cell phone and told her to never call me at work ever again. What is the law for this regarding this type of situation?
