Someone claiming to be me called and canceled my card

Just as the title says, my wife and I opened a joint Visa card with compass bank in person almost a month ago. Today I go to use the card for gas and it doesn't work. When I get home I try to use it online again and it doesn't work. So I call the number and they tell me that a person claiming to be me called and said it was a fraud account and he wasn't married and they closed it just like that.

No phone calls to us, no way he was able to answer all the questions I had to when I called. This is such BS, I am trying to rebuild my credit and my wife is helping me and now some stupid idiots screw it up.

I don't know what to do next, and I don't know how this is going to affect both our credit reports having an account opened and closed so fast. Yes both of our credit reports showed the account being opened.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

If this card made up a significant amount of your available credit, your credit score will take quite a ding. I would try getting their fraud department on the line and demanding a better explanation of what happened. This is the first time I've heard of someone actually "closing" an account in another person's name...very strange. There's got to be more to the story. Anyway, they should still have the power to reopen an account for you if this is all just a misunderstanding.
