Does anyone know if I can file a lawsuit in the county court where I live (Florida) against a CA (small, one office) that is located in Virginia? It is for a supposed debt that was incurred while I was living in Virginia in 1996-97.

Please help if you know this!!! I don't want to threaten a lawsuit if I will have to go to Virginia to do so.

As far as I know you may file suit anywhere if it's under the FDCPA or the FCRA. I suggest you read both further for clarification.

I was under the impression that you had to file in the state the CA is doing business in. I could be wrong though.

If they are trying to collect from you, you can sue them in your state.
