Ok I quit smoking 18 hours ago. I am doing fine EXCEPT after lunch I almost chewed my arms off.

I would think this would be easy seeing as I have watched 3 family members DIE from lung cancer.

My hubby smokes too, but he has the courteousy to go outside and smoke.

Please anyone else out there that is trying to quit or has quit successfully?

KHM, you are brave! I smoke a pack and a half a day and I tried to quit once. After a whole DAY without smoking, I realized I was in trouble when I started screaming obsceneties and crying hysterically just because I got stuck at a red light. I need my sanity right now, lol. I've heard that Zyban works really good. I know someone who went on Wellbutrin (an anti-depressant) to stop smoking and had good results. Good luck, and keep your arms away from your mouth. :)

    Thanks guys!
I don't have any insurance right now so zyban is out. My mom tried wellbutrin and it didn't work for her.
My father quit cold turkey 25 years ago.
I quit when I was preggers and went righ back to it, weird huh?

My arms are away from my mouth, but everything else in the fridge is NOT.

Take it a day at a time. Don't give up on yourself if you backslide a little. It's horrible, but you'll feel a LOT better all around when you get through it.

BTW, Zyban IS Wellbutrin, they were afraid to market an anti-depressant as a smoking inhibitor, so they call it two different things. Same stuff.

Thanks red! It's day 5 without a butt, it does feel good, but it's also irritating.

In most cases, quitting takes practice.

    wow KHM,

5 days, congratulations!!!!!!!!! Is it getting better?

Do you need me to donate my arms too, I'm thinking just pulling two arms off wouldn't be enough!

    Sassy-
Today is day 8!!!! I can proudly say I am past the nicotine addiction. I'm almost over the hand to mouth motion. I have been drinking my drinks with a straw and I'm amazed how much easier it made it.

I had smoked since I was 11.....that makes 14 years of smoking!!! More than 1/2 my life. Feels good to know I will save $1400+++ a year.

    That is GREAT, KHM!!!!!!!!!

Really great! I've heard that quitting smoking is comparable to beating a cocaine addiction!

You've a lot to be proud of. Are you motivating hubby to do the same or is he not interested?

$1,400 bucks! LOL, that's a retirement account -- that's a message, isn't it? $1,400 bucks to slowly kill yourself, willingly per year.

I've quit twice and always for me after the nicotine part was my hands, what to do with my hands? That's the psychological part, I think, there's plenty to do, of course, it is just so strange.

Congrats again to you, we are so much bigger than our habits -- You've proven that!

2 weeks today!!!! My DH has also quit, did I mention that before? My mind is going now that Ive quit.
Funny thing, I went to my mother's house Saturday for the first time since I quit and it smelled like a dirty ashtray. I didn't think I would be able to tell so soon.

No more cravings, not even the hand to mouth thing. If I can do it ANYONE can do it.

I smoked for 10 years before I had my kids 6 yrs ago. I can honestly say there have been times that I STILL think "Gee I wish I had one right now!!" when stressful moments hit! But I never have had one since. That morning sickness did it for me I think! I only tried once when I first got pregnant and that WAS IT! LOL! Plus my babies were my total motivation.

The smell truly bothers my sinus's now, (cigars trigger my migraines too) which sucks now since I moved to the South where people I think are BORN with one in their mouths. (Please, I mean NO OFFENSE to any other southerners but coming from a state who had major anti smoking campaigns and laws, this has been just awful! Every restaurant, bowling alley, post office, beauty salon, stores etc. PEEUWW!!)

But I'm getting off topic! Just take it one day at a time and treasure each and every accomplishment! It's never easy for anyone and I think all of us have tried more than once. You have to really want it, but today is all any of us have. Just make it through today and worry about tomorrow as it comes.

I wish you the best!! 30 days is right around the corner, then 3 mos, 6 mos, 9 mos......

    You Can Do It!!!

Thanks newstdt! It's day 17 for me and day 7 (I think) for hubby. It's easier now that he's quit, he's buggin me for a butt and I have to be the backbone.
Hopefully if we are out of debt and fully employed, after a year I want to get my teeth whitened.

    Congrats on quitting!!

I quit everytime I get to the end of my pack, which has turned into everyday.

Last year I quit for 5 months and started back again.

I do recall recently I think 2 days went by without smoking.

I think stress has a lot to do with it.
