I got a letter from the fraud department needing more information from me so they can proceed with the Lowes application. The problem is I didn't apply for a Lowes card. I immediately call them and asked what was going on. They said someone applied for credit and were waiting for more info, they mentioned because I have a "Fraud Alert" on my accounts, they couldn't proceed. Well that did its job. I still don't know where they got my personal info but they cant use it that easily. Hell, I cant even pull my own credit. They agreed to remove the inquiry also. I need to pull my credit somehow and see what types of inquiries or bogus crap on it. I was surfing the net and saw a company called Life-lock, I think I also heard a commercial about it too. They do the same thing you can do, all they do is write to the bureaus and put a Fraud Alert on your account and "opt you out" from junk email. I did this years ago and haven't gotten a single junk mail. But I still don't know how my info got out there. I think I read somehow that some creditors don't verify even when they see a Fraud Alert but so far, I haven't had a problem.
Creditnet provides information on LifeLock and other credit monitoring and identity theft services: LifeLock and Credit Monitoring Also, if you need to pull your credit reports, check out our credit reports section.
Lifelock is not as useful as its proponents would have you believe. The one who gives out his social had his identity stolen by a mentally challenged man. You could look it up...
