As some of you may recall - I broke my oath a few weeks back and applied via the internet for what has now turned out to be a sorry and sordid saga - Safeway Select Bank.
Appled for checking acct and line of credit.
    Pressed submit.
After a couple of min received "sorry - cannot process at this time."
Figure it might have gone through anyway - it's happened in the past with Citi.
Checked my Equifax report a couple of days later - sho nuff - a HARD inquiry from Amicus fsb - the company provides financial services to Safeway.
Called up Safeway - ask for status of application.
Nada - not in system yet sir - try in a few days,
Call every day for about A WEEK (ok - i'm a pain the ass - so what?)
finally - 10 days later - rep confers with supervisor - comes back and says - well - if the message you got on the web site was could not process at this time - it means they couldn't verify all of the info from your credit report to your application and YOU"LL HAVE TO GO IN PERSON to the Sageway Select bank in your area (Glendale, CA, which is about 25 minutes away - not all that in my area).
Well - I say - what about the credit report they pulled?
Oh - answers the rep - that's okay - they won't have to pull another one if you get to the bank in person in 30 days!

Well - as my grandmother used to say - F**k that noise!
If i knew I had to drive out there - I wouldn't have applied.
Unfortunately - as far as I know - Equifax doesn't verify hards on its own (correct me if I'm wrong - I called Eq once and they told me to write to the cc that pulled my report) and I'm going to have to send out "never applied letter - delete or pay me 1000 bucks!"
WHAT A HASSLE FOR NOTHING> JEEZ!

Aiside from Generations Bank - i'm going to stay away from smaller banks. The next time I apply for anything - it will be from Amex. Citi, Chase or Bofa.

Same crap I got. Before you hit submit, it says we may ask you a couple of questions to verify your identity., It never asked any questions and then says they can't verify my ID. I went into the branch, about 2 miles away. I got the checking, savings and overdraft but they refused to give me the visa because of age of accts. That is pure b.s. Amex just gave me an Optima card on Friday with a $12,000 limit. Same report pulled. Jerks. I just got the checks and debit card, but I am going to close them.

    LKH,
Hey - congrats on Amex - 12K is alot for Amex to give for a starting limit - in my experience.
Re Safeway - every time i spoke to one of their cs reps I kinda got the feeling they don't know their ass from their elbow ... even b4 I heard the bs story about having to go into the branch (if that's the case - then why do you have online applications?) I weas beginning to regret applying with them. Learned my lesson.

Yeah, me too. I will never apply for one of those type banks again. As for Amex., they have been very generous with my starting limits. They gave me $10,000 for the Gold Delta Skymiles in May. So far, I'm very happy with them.

Congrats on the high CLs. But 2 questions. Did Safeway check Chex Systems as well, or just EQ? And what was your score for the AmEx? Thanks! By the way, since you're in California, you can demand $3500 for the inquiry. A thousand for the FCRA and $2500 for California civil code.

I have no idea if they checked with chex, but I don't think did. They pull Equifax for just a checking acct.

My score when I got the Delta was 686, I think, for the Optima I believe I posted earlier that it was a 727. I'm not in Cal.
