I was cruising the FCNB sites on my unsecured MC/ VISA/ and Spiegel. (FYI - I don't have ANY balances on any cards. I am using AMEX for everything and snap paying them online.)

I noticed that my Spiegel acct now has a cash advance line available to me of - drumroll here----
$350.00! My Spiegel total line is $1400.
I don't know HOW you access it - do they imprint a Spiegel card for ATM access? Either way - you know the rate would be horrible. But I took it as another sign of credit improvement kicking in.

FCNB was a good bank to deal with - their products were reasonable and they are trustworthy.
I have their cards in the drawer because the MC is an old tradeline....

    Hi, dogman

I don't know about Spiegel, but I was just writing to say I'm glad you're back. We wondered a few days ago where/how you've been!

    Take care.

    Dogman,

I just logged on the FCNB account on-line and I found out my Spiegel Card has purchase credit limit $1850 and cash advance $462. If you wanted to make cash advance on your credit card, you should pick the lowest one. According to the terms the purchase and cash avance APR is pretty high and I don't think it is a good idea to take cash out of retail store card. By the way Sears also offer cashavance offer. Here is the terms of the Spiegel Card:-

    Annual Percentage
Rate (APR) for purchases and cash advances 22.60%
    Other APRs Penalty APR: 27.60%
    See explanation below. *
Variable-rate information Your APR may vary.
The rate is determined each month by adding 14.10% for purchases and cash advances to the Prime Rate, as published in the "Money Rates" section of The Wall Street Journal on the 15th day of the month or the next business day if the 15th is not a business day, with a minimum APR of 22.60% for purchases and cash advances.
Grace period for repayment of balances for purchases You have, on average, 30 days between billing cycles to pay the new balance on your account to avoid a finance charge on purchases.
Method of computing the balance for purchases Two-cycle Average Daily Balance (including new purchases).
    Annual Fee NONE
    Minimum Finance Charge $.50
Transaction fee for cash advances: 3% of the cash advance with a minimum of $5.00.

Late-payment fee: If we do not receive an amount equal to at least the total Minimum Payment Due by the Payment Due Date shown on the last Statement, a Late Payment Charge will be charged to your Account. The Late Payment Charge is $29 if the balance on your Account is less than $200.00 on the date the Late Payment Charge is charged to your Account. The Late Payment Charge is $35 if the balance on your Account is $200.00 or greater on the date a Late Payment Charge is charged to your Account.

    Over-the-credit-limit fee: NONE

*If we do not receive an amount equal to at least the Minimum Payment Due by the Payment Due date shown on the last Statement, if you are otherwise in default under your FCNB Credit Card Account Agreement, or if, based on information from one or more consumer reports, we determine that your creditworthiness has materially deteriorated such that you are no longer eligible for the standard variable Daily Periodic Rate and Annual Percentage Rate provided for in this Agreement, we have the right to increase the APR up to the greater of 27.60% or the Prime Rate plus 19.10% for purchases and for Cash Advances.

    Thanks

    They sure don't promote it.

I may call and see if I can switch.
It promotes a good cause and earns rebates.

I noticed on my account also. My cl is 3750, and my cash advance limit is 937.00.

I have an Eddie Bauer Gold Mastercard, I didn't know Spiegel offered a MC. The Eddie Bauer card is pretty cool. You make reward points for all purchases. My APR is pretty low its my 2nd prime card at 11.99. My limit is 2500. I am not sure about their increases. My FCNB MC increases every 6 months for about 100 bucks.

Are you talking about the plain old spiegel card??? That is wierd. I just looked at mine and it doesn't have a magnetic stip on it that I could put in an ATM. I'll have to dig out my statements and see.

Just for info, my Nordstroms has a 150.00 cash limit and Radio Shack has 75.00. They both sent new cards with the strip and pin numbers when they started offering that service.
